DPF Regeneration

Hi All.

Is there any way to tell if the car is doing a DPF regeneration?

I recently crossed over the 400 miles threshold since I got my car. On my way to work, the car seemed to be holding gears a little longer, running slightly rough, and mpg dropped down somewhat. This lasted about 10-15 minutes and about 10 miles. Then it went back to normal. No CEL or other warning lights came up at all. Anyone have any insight on this?

Thank You!

Exhaust gas temps are a good tell. Mine reach over 1000F during regen. Get yourself a good OBDII scanner and the Torque app, and install the extended PIDS.

EDIT: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1118429 There is a link for the PIDS. Useful for many things.

Nice. I already have an OBDII Bluetooth adapter and the Torque Pro app. Is it accurate enough to measure without updated/extended PIDs?

yes it is torque will work..

the car holds gears a lot longer in regen... I first noticed it after I got the XHP tune and could see what gear the car was in... it seems like it tries to maintain about 2000 RPM's before it shifts

Exhaust temp never worked well for me without the updated/extended PIDs. Afterwards they were flawless. Not that they do me much good now that I'm deleted.

As above really, run Torque and you'll soon see:

Limited EGR 0-40%
600+ degree EGT
The car will operate in vacuum during a regen

Make sure it's over 75 degrees on the coolant too.

Ahh okay.

I read somewhere that more fuel is injected during regeneration to aid in the process and this could contribute to the slight dip in mpg while regeneration is occuring. Can anyone confirm this?

Prior to my deletes, I recall seeing mileage going from 40 mpg to ~ 33 mpg by resetting the mileage computation in middle of regen.

Cool. Thank you. Fairly confident a regeneration is what was happening this morning.

Have my Torque Pro set up to show EGT Bank 1 Sensor 1. Still need to update with the extended PIDs. The below screenshots are this afternoon. The first is at idle, the second is cruising around 50 mph. This is about 3:00 p.m.. My car had been running about 15-20 minutes after sitting for about 5 hours since my morning drive to work.

Yeah, those PIDs are fantastic. It pulls up the 3 temp sensors nice and easy. All 3 of my temp sensors fired off at over 1100F during regen. Normal cruising was in the 500F range, but changed depending on load.
