Koni Yellow Sports

Just ordered some Yellow Koni's to replace the stock dampers on my 2014 320i. I'm lowered on H&R Sport springs. I've watched my youtube video's and figured out what tools I need. My only concern is if I should use the stock bump stops or get shorter ones to replace the OE ones?

Trying to decide if I need these or not. Dinan Supplemental Ride Quality & Handling Kit
https://www.dinancars.com/product/d1...ries&mid=1195/

Seems like I may need them in the rear more than the front. Just by bouncing the car up and down the fronts seem to have plenty of travel like its not riding on the bump stops but the rear has very little travel. Like it's already very close if not riding on the bump stops.

Koni Yellows are a great shock, the ability to adjust dampening is great when you want to go from the street to the autocross or light track duties. Off the shelf they do very well. If you are experiencing that much movement in the rear, try stiffening the shock a little. Trimming bumpstops would be fine as well, as long as you're getting enough shock travel, but if money is no issue, obviously the tuned and shorter Dinan bumpstops would be ideal.

Just put the Koni Yellows on with Dinan Bump stops. The difference is night and day. There is plenty of shock travel and no more floating and bounciness from the rear.

You do not need the bump stop kit. I ran the Super Sports and had no issues.

I would recommend the bump stops. I got bought them when I did my drop last week.

I don't know about the 3 but on the 2 series the Dinan bump stops are BMW oem parts from other BMW models available for about $30.

Well if you're not hitting them then great but I don't see how you're not on Super Sports. Are you an the stock dampers? The rear was terrible and I know I was riding on them.

So I guess I had a hybrid setup with mixing the Sport and Super Sport springs as i hated the tuck the SS gave in the rear. I like my stuff to look symmetrical and have done lots or research and having H&R facility near my home to get info about the springs etc was helpful. These were on stock 704 sport dampers and I ride my car hard and take it to the track. H&R paperwork DOES NOT require to cut/ change the factory bump stops on our cars as although the springs are shorter they are also stiffer. Difference between the SS and S springs is roughly 35lbs of compression strength and the rears are roughly 50lbs. I only used the Front H&R Super Sport springs as I wanted to avoid the rear tucking and went with just the Sport springs in the rear which was almost the same height as the stock suspension just less than 1/4" lower which was not a big deal. So with the front being the SS spring and the rear being the Sport I was even at 26" from ground to fender on both front and rear. So for me the fronts never bottomed out and still had plenty of travel and the rears stayed within factory spec as it was not much different in hieght. Car felt great and the ride was firmed up but had to switch to the sport springs in the front as I ripped off my lip on my steep driveway ;-( So I can say if you go with just the Sport Springs than the Bump kit is NOT Needed.

For those who installed Koni sports on their F30, did the front shocks come with a white plastic disc with a slit cut into it that threads over the shock piston? I just got mine yesterday and the disc is missing.

I'm sure the product is wonderful but Koni is doing a piss poor job on documentation. The 'international' pictograph method isn't breaking down communication barriers, it's causing confusion. While I'm sure Koni wouldn't like to pay for translators for all their products but if written in English it can easily be run through any one of a large number of online translators for those using another language.

Koni USA has a whole 5 minute video on setting shocks. Koni also has online instructions in multiple languages. But install? I didn't find anything on their site. I can understand Koni isn't going to make an endless number of videos/manuals describing installation on 100s of models of different cars, but no install tips? Explanations? White washer? Need it? Don't need?

NEW OWNERS. NEED THIS PART? TAKE A GUESS!

I've read the purpose of the white washer to to keep the shock from being damaged it if hits the bump stop. Not sure how the bump stop hitting the shock body would damage it but then again, I don't make shocks for a living. I defer to Koni's judgment which has decided to not comment on the white washer referred to in the instructions.

I installed mine a month or so ago and the white plastic washers came with the kit. I installed them per the instructions, but honestly I don't know if they do much....

Sorry I had it wrong. I don't recall if those were in the box, as I took everything to my installer with the box still sealed the day they arrived.
