Yeah, I am pretty sure SMG is being "put on hold" for the ZSG stuff. I would be shocked if its available, considering its not even available for the brand new Z4. I think they are waiting until ZSG is revealed (with the 335 coupe I presume) and then it will become an option for the Z4 and rest of the 3-series.

Kamando is right. SMG-I used to be available for the E90.
In fact, when it first came out, I built my E90 on the bmwusa website and it offered SMG at the time. The option was about $150 premium over the slushbox, if my memory serves me right. SMG-II for the E46 M3 holds a much higher premium (relative to SMG-I).

I am convinced that the SMG is not available on E 90 cars, at least in the U S market. Does anyone have one or at least a build sheet indicating that one is in the pipeline? If not, let's drop it. <G>

SMG for the E90 never made it to the market. Not in the US and not anywhere else in the world. Apart from some test mules, none were ever built for customers. It was originally sheduled for Septmeber05 but then was withdrawn before anybody could ever order one. The passages have been in many early manuals, so this is not an indication of a change in availablity (not even regional), but rather of an overstock of early manuals. Some dealers (as usual) donīt know their head from their butt and still talk about SMG beeing an available option simply because there is an option code for it (since it got pretty close to introduction, no wonder). But noone could deliver an E90/91/92 with SMG.
(Non-M) SMG as we know it is dead. Itīs not coming to the E90 and itīs beeing pulled from the Z4 with the facelift. Expect it to be discontinued in the 5 and 6 series sooner or later as well. The future is ZSG.

unless it was significantly better than both step and manual transmissions (ie. delivered better 0-60 times), i wouldn't order it anyways...

If the new ZSG technology really imitates the double-clutch technology used in DSG, then yes, the 0-60 times will be faster. E90Fleet - do you happen to know why the E46 3 series sufferred numerous problems with their SMG transmission while on the other hand, the E46 M3's SMG did not? Is the Drivelogic that beneficial or perhaps BMW practice better quality control with the M models?

I recall reading that manufacturers were beginning to license VW/Audi's DSG technology... is there any way to confirm it might be the basis for 'ZSG'? DSG's good stuff, btw.
