Key fob battery rechargeable?

I just went to start my car after being in hibernation for winter. My key fob wasn't working. I have comfort access and I usually put my key fob in the dashboard slot. Now I opened my key fob and noticed that the battery is a CR2032 but non rechargeable. My question is if I buy a rechargeable battery will it recharge if I put it in the key slot???

I don't believe the comfort access keys have charging capability.

Nothing gets forgotten when changing the battery, the car will still remember all of the settings linked to your key. I have had to change each of mine once.

Nope. It's not rechargeable. Just replace that little button battery and you're good to go. There's plenty of YouTube videos that'll show you the process, or your dealer might do it for free if you turn up with the key and battery (mind did). I think you might want to replace both batteries in your two keys for the sake of consistency.

So for the non-comfort-access crew any ideas what to do (other than fund the dealer's kids' college fund) when the rechargeable battery goes?

This is a design "feature" of those keys which is very unfortunate, given the short lifespan of rechargeable batteries.

Perhaps someone on the internet has figured out a way to resuscitate those non-CA keys into something that can continue to work without the dead rechargeable battery. Google is your friend!

thanks for posting this.. both the batteries in the remotes for my 2013 X1 daily driver are giving me " charge" messages as if it can be charged in the car...

.. my 1M remotes continue to be just fine... no comfort access to run them down..
