Bought new front pads, no clips on outside pads - ok??

Hi,

As in the title, I bought new brake pads. When I was removing the old ones, I noticed for the front outside pad (the one that is stationary, not attached to the cylinder) does not have the metal clip that the oem ones do. It looks like the pad will still sit in the right place. Does anyone know if this is ok? Or is this an issue and I need to return the new pads.

Thanks
Daniel

I ran into this recently too and I first thought that I got the wrong aftermarket pads. Turns out, even the OEM pads from the dealer don't have the clips either. Long story short, I ended up installing them and they seem to be fine.

The outside pad doesn't have anything only the inside pad has the clip that goes into the piston.

Thanks Jeff.

Interesting that the pads still look like they have some life left in them...about half a centimeter of thickness...

Just got done changing the pads. The pad with the sensor was almost completely worn down. All the others still had some decent thickness to them.

Is your car a 335i? BMW recently changed the design. The outer pad no longer has clips.

It's best to change the pads well before minimum thickness as the thinner it gets the more damage is done to the rotor.. On road car 75% use of pads is what I aim for, and typically 2 sets of pads per before a disc change.

So hopefully that helps the thought that you have wasted some pad life!
