I took my car in for a battery cable recall and the brake vacuum recall after getting a letter about one and told by the dealer about the other.

Long story short they wouldn't/couldn't do the vacuum brake recall because my car has non BMW parts on it. I had the CIC and combox retro fitted by Makkan00 a couple of years ago and it's been pretty flawless since. BMW have serviced the car a couple of times without saying anything, but they cannot do this recall due to the car needing coding and saying it will fail.

The recall is 0012260400 and only affects 2 litre N43 engines. Mine is a manual with start stop so looking at the document it doesn't require any physical parts.

Should I be worried about this? Is there an indy that can do the code upgrade to that module without screwing my CIC/whole car?

Last time I spoke to Sam (Makkan00) he doesn't do mods any more so don't think it will be something he can help with.

Any advice to push me in the right direction? Happy to pay a decent BMW indy to do it if they can.

Simple, just put in your old radio.

Kind of means changing the dash out and re-coding again... cost me a chunk to have it installed, let alone put back and reinstalled again after system is flashed.

Why do you need to change the dash?

Just remove the cic & plug in the radio.... drive to your dealer.... flash done!

If you originally had a MULF or TCU in the boot, then you will need to reinstall this.

I had no nav at all before. I still have the old professional standard head unit.

Would that work? I'm only in Luton and you are hemel based aren't you? Fancy giving us a hand doing that at some point for a few beer tokens?

This is fine to do. Although when I did this I recorded the vehicle to remove pro sat from the VO. I just assumed this was necessary. If not then I wasted 10mins so no big deal.

Was the dealer Specialist Cars? Might be worth contacting Evolve Automotive and seeing if they can do anything to help out, they're a BMW/M Specialist based in Luton.

I guess by doing this the nav emulator is then out of the circuit?

Not sure what cabling was modified if any to do it. Apart from cable to com box and screen etc.

My old head unit had Bluetooth in the pro unit rather than box in the boot.

Guys, you are all making this complicated.

If you never had a Bluetooth module in your boot before - like I've said earlier, all you need to do is remove the CIC head unit & fit your old radio.

No coding is required as Makkan would have not written your new options to the car!

Have you still got your old radio?

Yeah I'm sitting next to it. I have all of the parts that came out. Including the old dash.

Stupid question - but is anyone up for helping change head unit? I'm worried about breaking plastics and what not. I'm not really a DIY guy with my car.

I've had experience of this specific dealer for both my cars. They are very cautious when it comes to updates / software flashes. Revert the head unit to the old one, & then they will do it.
Unfortunately they can't do custom software flashes, and will only flash a whole car on the basis of what BMW Munich tells them the car had from the factory - so if you have a coded piece of non-standard hardware on there, they know in advance it will fail the update process.
Can't be a big deal to find someone to recode your hardware afterwards - the original installer isn't the only one to do this work by any stretch.
Maybe drop MR VYS a PM - he has done a few of these.
