2018 BMW 3-Series (G20) arrival and news update
This article is a month old, but I couldn't find mention of any new updates about the upcoming BMW G20 3-Series on this forum after executing a quick search. I'll be eligible for an early lease pull-ahead with my 428i Gran Coupe in March of 2019 or I can wait until my full lease term is up in September of 2019, so I was thinking I could pull the trigger on a new G20 3-Series at that time. I have my eye on that new M340i if it will truly be a thing. But in line with an M340i I am thinking BMW will release an M440i Gran Coupe about a year after the new G20 comes out. Big thing for me is that I really really want a BMW with a 6MT that is not a full ///M car, since my future M340i or M440i will be my daily driver and my M5 is a DCT. I do hope that they will give us Americans a 6MT option for the next 3-Series. I can pretty much bet they will not let Americans get a next gen 4-Series Gran Coupe with a 6MT since one is not offered now. So it might be the M340i with a 6MT for me when my lease is up. Or if not then I will just get a used 2017 340i with a 6MT for cheap.
I look forward to the Frankfurt Autoshow this September. https://www.carwow.co.uk/news/2018-b...ease-date-2682 Here are the highlights of the article: - New BMW M340i has been spotted testing - Could use a twin-turbo 3.0-litre engine producing as much as 335hp - Expected to add racy touches to the standard 3 Series’ styling - Should go on sale in summer 2018 A prototype BMW M340i – a more performance-oriented version of the upcoming 3 Series – has been spotted undergoing testing in images courtesy of statesidesupercars. This high-performance model will sit below the M3 and will rival the likes of the Audi S4 and Mercedes-AMG C43 when it goes on sale in summer 2018. 2018 BMW 3 Series G20 styling The M340i test mule in this images boasts BMW’s signature twin kidney grilles flanked by two angular headlights and a racy lower bumper with large air intakes to cool its powerful engine. Despite its thick layer of camouflage, it’s easy to spot a set of sporty flared wheel arches and a prominent crease in the new car’s doors. A small spoiler on the bootlid and a sporty rear bumper with large exhaust tips will help set this racy edition apart from the standard 3 Series. 2018 BMW 3 Series G20 interior The M340i is expected to add a few sporty touches to the next generation 3 Series’ interior including more supportive seats, a new steering wheel and a handful of aluminium trim pieces. Many upcoming 3 Series models are expected to feature a digital instrument cluster and an updated iDrive infotainment system with gesture controls. These have already seen service in the latest 7 Series and allow you to operate a range of functions by waving your hand across the centre console. 2018 BMW 3 Series G20 engines The M340i could use a similar 3.0-litre six-cylinder twin-turbocharged engine to the 335hp unit found in the M240i. It’s uncertain whether BMW will offer a manual gearbox with the next generation 3 Series and, as a result, the M340i will likely come with an 8-speed auto ‘box as standard. It’s also expected to come with lowered suspension, sporty driving modes and a set of powerful brakes. The upcoming 3 Series is expected to make its debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

I applaud your choice for a 6MT.
Depending on how good looking the G20 will be but the best choice right now is to find a good 6MT 340i F30. Good luck to your on your choice. I cant wait to see the G20 |

I have heard mid-2018 start of production for the new 2019 3-series. The 4-series date is less certain -- I've seen articles that put it as late as mid-2020 (as a 2021 model). I believe BMW did something similar with the current 4-series lagging behind the 3-series.

The next generation of 3er is NOT debuting at the IAA. Too early.
