VED
Will the VED be based on the list price or the price you actually pay?
List price for the 335d is £41k without options! It won't change my mind regarding the VED but would be nice to prepare for my pants getting pulled down and bent over by the government for next few years.

Based on the full OTR price, including factory options and delivery cost, less number plates, fuel, registration and RFL cost.
But very clear in your case, luxury bracket. |

My friend has a brand new S3 saloon that's just tipped into the £40k bracket with options.

This the likes of S3, VW Golfs and lesser BMW's, it does mean really watching your options. When specing my Golf R I was very aware how easy it was moving from my £38900 to £40000, it's like specing leather or some other option that is more of a nice to have. So paying top rate VED with a Golf would be stupid, however sort of inevitable when buying a decent 3 series. Oh and with Golf R, I can have some options fitted by the dealer - such as reversing camera for about £100 more than option price. |

You can spec a reasonable 330d under the £40k mark list with a few select options. That'll be less likely thought after the July price rise.

This new method doesn't do much to the super luxury cars, in fact it probably works out better for some high priced cars as there are normally also high polluting cars on the old system. So yet again a tax for the middle upper class. My new car with the options I wanted came out at a BMW OTR cost of £40,705. So I deleted privacy glass, which brought it to £40,480 and just in the standard bracket (£500, first year road fund) . There was no help from the salesman to avoid, which means in a parallel universe, if I hadn't have known I could have been paying around £2000 for tinted windows. : |

It seems to me that unless the Manufacturers change any price rise point from the beginning of the month, waiting for a car plate change, is more likely to catch buyers out, in this price range. Crystal Ball anyone? . |

It's a big shit storm this VED, why couldn't they introduce to higher tax bracket on £60k+ cars?
It feels like the ones who work their backsides off and want something nice get stung, it's crazy that a £40k 3 series is the same tax as a super car!
