Car mats stink!

Guys need help, i bought some quality mats last year & decided to shampoo them few days back, left them outside to dry naturaly, results were like new again, few days later the inside of the car reeks like damp. Today i found out its the underside of the mats that stink, they are rubber underneath is there a way to get rid of the smell from the rubber? or have i ruined them (they have lifetime warranty)

Good excuse to replace them with Cocomats. I have them in both cars and love them to death.

Vacuum with a wet vac and let air dry a few days. Then spray with something like ozium or similar. Rinse/repeat until gone.

Yep. Best to let them bake in the sun.

I've had this issue across several cars in Vermont - in the winter you'd end up with slush and whatnot in the car, and it wouldn't really dry out. So in the spring, you clean the floor mats, clean the carpet, etc, and just let it thoroughly air dry. Using something color safe to kill bacteria is also a good idea.

This may sound like a stupid question, but have you tried contacting the manufacturer and asking them what can be done?

Good, then. Odd that the rubber would develop an odor like that. Wonder if it was a reaction to the cleaning agent you used?

I recently had a classified WTB the "floor pan" black carpet. You will notice I cancelled classified.

Spoke with some top notch auto people who rebuild show quality classics.

They told me that anything carpeting is something you NEVER buy used.

When shampoo or any other cleaner is used, you never get the smell out of them, no matter what you use.

This thread has me glad that I listened to them and purchased new parts.
