So just 2 hours ago my passenger door decided it doesn't want to unlock. Even when I pull the door handle the lock pin goes up but just falls right back down when I let go. I think it's the lock actuator but I'm trying to see if anyone knows if it could be anything else. Also, anyone have any idea how I could get the door open so I can get the panel off?

Edit: Does anyone know if the actuator would cause the interior door latch not to open up with a double pull? Also, does anyone know if an actuator for a car with the comfort access, alarm, etc will work on a car without those features? Part number 51217202146.

Thanks

If it finally unlocks by pressing the center unlock button in the vehicle, it most likely is the lock actuator. I've had to replace my passenger one (and another one is failing right now, ugh)- it seems to be a more common problem on these cars.

Yeah not even the dash lock/unlock button makes it unlock

THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFTY ISSUE and is probably a failed lock actuator! It is also a know problem on the F30 series.
I would take it to the dealer and complain to the Service Manager and because of the two issues above ask that they replace them even it you are out of warranty.
Good luck and give it a try.

Yeah I agree it is a big safety issue and they should fix it for free even though I'm out of warranty

Make sure you know how to exit through the trunk should this happen to you to avoid being trapped in the vehicle. You can do this if your car has the pass through in the rear seats.

In my 2014 F31 Sports Wagon the front doors failed to open with the double pull of the handle. The SA had the actuators replaced (under warranty) at the recommendation of the shop foreman who said this was the cause and that it was a recurrent problem in the F30's. My car has comfort access but no alarm. Not sure those features effect this problem.
There are other posts involving this issue if you search ....... "locks".

Well I ended up buying an actuator. Part# 51217229458 and it cost $185. I'm gonna try installing it myself but since I can't get my door to open to even get the door panel off I'm probably just gonna take it to my tuning shop.
