New 340i has wheel alignment issue, common?

Last week, I picked up a brand new 340i M sport.

4 days later, I noticed car drifts right on highway .
(Didn't drive much on highway until Day 4)

I asked my salesperson what to do - he gave me the standard response , call service & it should be all covered under warranty since its new car etc., but when I asked about a loaner car , he said there's a 3 week wait period .

Are wheel alignments an issue w new BMWs?

Are they covered under warranty? I thought it was a maintenance item?

Am I being too sensitive about NOT getting better response from this salesperson?

That would definitely sour the experience for me but the sales rep wouldn't be the one prepping the car and take it for a test drive. Tho if he said it in a cavalier way, I'd be pretty upset.

An alignment is pretty standard stuff. If you can wait on a saturday you won't need a loaner. Talk to the service rep about loaner, sales is a different dept. so they try to avoid over promise something not in their area.

Wait until you hear how parts and service are different and at some dealers, they don't get along.

May not be wheel alignment - instead, it may be a bad tire that is causing the pull to the right (faulty tire construction). Sometimes you can swap tires and it goes away, sometimes you have to replace the tire. Those should be checked first, and an alignment done afterwards if the tire or tires is not the cause.

BMW alignment warranty is good for the first 2K miles, unlike most other makes, which seem to have a 1 yr/ 12K mile warranty.

A new car should come properly aligned from any dealer/manufacturer. Don't let them brush you off - in the end, you're driving the car and it's your safety. You never know, it could be more than just an alignment issue so push to get it resolved ASAP.

It should not pull to the right. Well the steering is numb on center, If the roads flat you can literally let go of the steering wheel and it will drive straight for 100 miles.

Since it's a new car I would just give them a buzz and say hey I just bought this and want it fixed and I understand there's a three week wait for loaners but this needs to be addressed immediately. If you don't get the answer you want. Escalate.

That's somewhere between really sad, and just downright funny.

Made an appointment with my local dealer instead of the dealer where I bought it, because my local dealer is 10 mins away versus 40 mins.

Also, local dealer had a a loaner available this Friday!

My local dealer told me that as long as car has less than 1,000 miles - it's covered under a full warranty period for new cars

Soooo, will update you guys next week

No such issues with my 340i, which is driving perfectly after 4 months & 2500m! I wouldn't have even approached sales, once you've bought the car it's the service dept you want! Of course it will be covered it's a brand new car and you noticed the issue in the first week of ownership so unless you've hammered a curb or gone into a serious pothole then it's their responsibility! Hope it gets sorted!

Update:

Dropped my new 340i off to service Friday.

Today is TUE: Service Advisor called just now and said they are replacing the "steering knuckles" on my car to fix the car pulling to right.

Never heard of steering knuckles. He said there is no damage to the car or suspension, but they want to put in new parts and then put in final adjustments.

Hopefully, car is ready tomorrow.

Sucks buying a new 340i and being stuck in 430i Loaner for 6 days ! 🙄

Are you certain it's not just the highway? All jokes aside - I was over analyzing every little detail when I first got my 435. I would let the wheel go to see if the car would hold straight. It always veered a little. I would try to find patterns in the smallest vibrations to make sure I wasn't having any tire issues. Try driving in an evenly paved parking lot and see if the car pulls to one direction. Roads are often angled in my neck of the woods to allow for water runoff. The angle isn't visible to the naked eye.

Based on this string, I would only deal with the local dealer. A three week wait for a loaner is ridiculous.

My dealer sells me an alignment whenever I bring my car in for service so I assumed it wasn't covered. I guess it is for 2k miles per this thread but that is longer than the service interval. My car wasn't pulling to the right or left but I did curb it a couple times. Dealers will try to sell you additional services not covered by maintenance program, I may try a different dealer next time as I haven't curbed the rims since the last service and hopefully won't in the 3.5k miles left on the CBS. The dealer I'm going to is more highly rated so we'll see what happens as my prior dealer forgot to reset the CBS and didn't put enough oil in my car.

Yes - im certain the car pulls to right only at speeds over 60 mph

I suppose it could also happen on regular streets , not highways, but I never got a chance to drive my car over 60-70 mph on regular streets lol

Under 60 mph, the car stayed dead center on streets + highway.

If it's fine up to 60MPH, are you sure it's the car or the highway? The highway is raked to the left and right to shed water. Does it pull right in the left lane as well as the right?

Sounds like if it's fine up to 60MPH, your alignment is fine....

Nah, alignment issues usually are found over 60 MPH.
For example, a slight negative camber will be non existent under 60 mph , but easily noticeable at higher speeds.

Yes, I'm aware of the crown on the roads. However, I drive the same exact highways for the past 2 years with No pulling to the right on my old car + my SUV.

Got a new car and now all of a sudden, the new car pulls right.

So, something wrong w the new car - since I would have noticed the same pulling to the right on my old 328i & SUV

Also - the dealer already confirmed the alignment was off and that they corrected all the alignment specs and now they're replacing the steering knuckle
