Issue Filling Gas Tank

Ever since I bought my car over a year ago, I've had the same issue at the gas station: the auto cutoff feature of the pump wants to cut me off after just 1 gallon or so, even when the tank is nearly empty.

In other words, I put the nozzle in, squeeze to start pumping gas, and a few seconds later it is cutting off because it thinks the tank is full, but it isn't even close (maybe .5 or 2 gallons pumped, when I need to fill up with ~12+)

This probably happens about 80% of the time. Sometimes I get lucky and it just works normally.

Happening in California... I know we have some different pumps out here.

Any ideas?

Fairly common problem. A "search" on here will yield many threads with answers.

I've had this happen but would go to another pump and it would be fine.

This happens to me as well, but only if I stick the nozzle all the way in. If i leave it about 3/4 of the way in it fills up and auto cuts off fine.

Same here. Seems to be a pump issue rather than a car issue.

Visit different gas stations?
