I've noticed that the forum goes down at 11pm PST everyday. Is there some sort of maintenance update that happens or a backup? It's usually down for only a few minutes so can't imagine what they might be doing, would be nice to have some sort of notification on the site stating that there is downtime everyday for a few minutes at 11pm.

Never heard of Backups?

Backups don't work well with Databases open.

Would be nice of them to inform us when this takes place, I'm surprised it only takes a few minutes to backup. Google seems to have it down to a science with multiple mirror sites so they're always up.

Obviously you have figured out when it happens. Virtually every forum on the web goes down for backup and reindexing daily (only posts from last 24 hours are needed to be backed up, so unsure why you are impressed with the short time frame).

Google is a MultiBillion Dollar Company with redundant servers all over the world.

Google pays users to upload videos.

Though If you want to send money monthly to the owners for services, I am sure they will happily accept.

They are for profit and get plenty of money from ads on the site and people selling. They would not exist if there wasn't a way to make money.

Well, then according to your info, they must not be losing money by taking down databases for daily maintenance at 2P ET/11P PT.

Then again, if you know so much about how much about behind the scenes, why did you not know why Forum went down daily?

More importantly, why has the iOS app quit taking me back to the last read post on Subscribed threads? Now it just goes to the first post in a thread, even if that thread is 3 years old.

If it does go down consistently at that time for brief periods, it's probably because that is when the site itself has the least amount of traffic.

Usually I'm in a deep sleep coma at that hour, so I have never noticed the forums being down.
