E92 N52 PE question! Thanks bros

Hi Guys,

Looking to get a PE for my 328 coupe; I've been creeping the forums and couldn't come to a true answers.

According to my local parts guy, the E92 PE only comes with the muffler (Part # 11617559530). I've been browsing a few pictures, and it looks like PE is inclusive of both a muffler, and the mid-pipes which feature a res delete.

Anyone with an 328xi coupe wanna chime in on this one? (Wondering what part number you ordered)

Part deux(2):
I've been reading a little on the PE mod for our mufflers, anyone ever done this on their 328? If so, I would highly apprecaite some videos - hopefully if it's just as good I might save a couple of bucks getting the actual PE.

Of course..videos and clips are to follow once I arrive at an answer

The best answer you will get will be from calling a dealership or Turner and asking about what parts come with the BMW SKU for the PE for your car.

Depends on your engine. For example US engines with port injection get muffler and mid-pipes, whereas in Europe (and Canada?) direct injection engines get muffler only.

Called up my dealership, they've informed me that it's muffler only. Kinda sad if I fork over 1000 for just a muffler.

Anyone in Canada have a 328 coupe and want to chime in? Not sure why we'd only get the mufflers as opposed to mid-pipes as well.

Production for my vehicle was 10/2006 N52 engine - not sure if this helps. :/

RealOEM disagrees.

The first part # given says it's discontinued, so I looked up the second one:

I've had a PE mod done by an exhaust shop. They repiped my stock muffler and welded it back on, I kept the resonator.

It sounds much better on downshifts but stock at cruising. Subtle burbles on overrun. Almost silent with windows up. It's the kind of discrete exhaust that I feel does justice to the I6.

It's likely not PE quality but maybe 75% of the way there.

Personally, over a $1000 CAD is a steep price for me to pay for a fairly ho hum oem exhaust on my e92 that's over 10 years old now. I'd rather budget that money towards new tires, suspension or even 3S IM.

Exactly my thoughts! but note in the realoem diagram, there's no highlights for the muffler; just the mid-pipes. On ECS tuning it notes "This is a rear section only exhaust and reuses the factory mid section. Includes muffler, tips, clamps and all the hardware needed for installation." Not sure what to expect getting different answers from everywhere - would be great for someone with a PE to chime in

do you happen to have any exhaust clips? planning on keeping my car for a few more years, $1000 doesn't seem too steep for me as a DD. really after the burbles, similar to some of the modern cars today

Keep calling dealers and asking. If they all say the same thing then you have your answer. I don't for the life of me know why people rely on anyone but a dealer with precise information or at least TurnerMotorsports for answers. You don't have to buy from a dealer but they have the best info and Turner knows their shit almost as well as a dealer.

This page from ECS for the E90/91 does not state that it is only the rear section leading me to believe that the E92/93 don't get the new pipe.

Where in Canada are you? I got a PE from Maranello BMW for a 2010 e92 with an N52.

The exhaust is in a long box with mid-pipes to delete the resonator.

Check with Maranello parts department. Max bimmer forum members get a discount.

I got mine about two years ago. Just speak to their parts department, they will get you the correct system based on your VIN.

Couldn't find the receipt, but found the Indy mechanic receipt where they charged me 1.5 hrs labor for a cat-back exhaust

Or you can do what I did for probably less than half the cost of a PE

Hit up GT Customs in Pickering.

Easy and fast solution and most accurate - instead of wasting your time asking random folks on forum (who know little) or a dealers (who often know even less) look under your damn coupe man and see if you see a secondary cats or muffler only. Problem solved

Next question is to decide for yourself if you want a PE (best option) or a PE mod (so-so) option. One is cheaper, but doesn't sound as good IMHO

Any cracks and burbles with the exhaust? Main point of me doing an exhaust mod, otherwise I would probably leave it stock. But your exhaust does sound deep and silky smooth!

Dude you have sedan, not coupe like OP is asking. Missing the point - PE for sedans e90 come with muffler and a resonator delete, but for coupes on some markets it comes with just muffler.
Also, nope, broken muffler is a myth lol originating from times when insulating material burned out with time. Nothing like that in PE lol - the only change in sound is in your mind that gets accustomed to new sound and picks up new notes as time goes
