Sport Mode vs. Shifter in Sport

What exactly is the difference when I have the car in Sport Mode (Drivetrain & Chassis) and the shifter in standard vs. Sport Mode (Chassis ONLY) and the shifter in sport?

Shifter in sport makes the car shift quicker and hold gears longer in all drive modes.

There are two different sport settings.

Driving mode in Sport (as opposed to Comfort or Eco Drive) changes to a different engine map that makes it a little more aggressive. It also stiffens up adaptive suspension and makes the MPPSK growl more.

When you put the shift lever in sport position, it shifts quicker and holds the gear longer, as Blubaron79 said. It also keeps the tranny in manual mode if you're using paddle shifters (although it will still upshift if you redline it).

With these settings, you'll get a different engine map and suspension settings, but the transmission will shift earlier and more slowly.

You won't get the more aggressive engine map. The car will hold gears longer and complete shifts faster.

Thanks. Which scenario is more ideal for fast in town daily driving?

Here's the details

DVC put this together (originally posted at http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...postcount=68):

I've tested the different combinations and found the transmission and chassis info correct.

this chart states its for a 2014 335 M Sport with MPPK... does the chart also apply to other years? 335's and 340's and 440's and 328 and 330 430 too??? all years and just with MPPK etc. each year and engine is slightly different and other stuff different too, so the chart is not a "blanket condition": for all F30's is it?

Depending on traffic conditions, I sometimes put the transmission in Sport mode, while using Comfort, or even Eco Pro.

For instance, in really congested, slow moving traffic (think of the approach to a construction zone, or passing an accident), having the transmission stay in a lower gear increases engine braking and makes more torque available for pulling away from a stop.

Very interesting. So would you say, straight line speed... DSC off gives same or different performance as Sport+? Ie where would you be trying to post a fast 0-60 time? I ask this because (with DSC OFF) I notice the lack of throttle advancement you claim, but also notice a Much harder launch just mashing brake then throttle right before going.

Thoughts?

In DSC off the throttle uses the comfort map so you have more control of the wheels if they break loose. Without DSC off sport/sport+ use a fast map.

Does not make the car faster or slower just more easy to manage. The E-LSD is also active regardless of what gear you are in to help the launch.

What I like is it does not seem to pull the power out from under you when you get some slippage.

If you're in manual mode and you floor it past the kick down it will downshift to the lowest possible gear

I’ve noticed this. I feel like I notice the power getting “governed” in sport+ when gunning a 0-60... maybe small slippages?
