Intermittent stock turbo leak?

Posted this on the mod forum and think that's the wrong place. (sorry noob)

Turbo question:. So I notice that my car ('14 435i) seems to be very hit or miss when it comes to power. Ever since I put an intake on I can hear several times when it seems like I hear the turbo letting air get released when it should be silelently spooling. It isn't a super big "dump" sound, but more like a grindy type of "clearing my thoat" sound when it should be a "high and right" building pressure sound

I had my local mechanic (Bullit in OC CA) take a listen after an oil change and he didn't think there was an issue.

Anyhow. Could it be possible to get an intermittent turbo leak? Has anyone ever heard of or had sporadic performance decreases?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you check your charge pipe for a leak?

Buy a wifi / Bluetooth OBDII reader and connect to your car you can monitor the turbo psi. There are free &/or relatively inexpensive apps for Apple and Android try a few and find one that will log and graph it. Super handy for reading all sorts of codes on all of your newer vehicles and can be done for < $20.
