Replace front strut mounts
Hey I'm hoping to replace my front upper strut mounts and wanted to know it it is safe to do without a spring compressor.
Also do you think I can get away with jacking up the car, removing bolts for mount under the hood, dropping the strut and wheel assembly, then just replace the mount like that? Or do I need to go through the process as if I was replacing the front struts removing brake calipers, lines, and sway bar links? |

I think I've found the answer to my own question. I have to remove the top mount plate and that is what essentially holds the spring compressed so I will have to remove all of the front suspension parts. 😒😒

NO!!
To replace the top mounts you must follow the same procedure as replacing struts or springs - compress the spring to relieve pressure on the strut mount. Be sure to order 2new strut nuts (the one in the middle) and 6 strut mount nuts if you follow the books |

I'd reason to believe that if you compress the entire assembly with a floor jack, undo the main strut nut, and lower assembly slowly that this method would remove/ease tension off the unit enough to get everything apart.
Installation would be the reverse, but would probably be more of a PITA than is worth. |

Thanks guys for the response. I am just going to wait to do the fronts at a later date when my shocks go out and I have to go find the spring compression tool. I was only going to do this as FCP has them on sale and when I removed the pin one side has a little lip and it's been a pain to remove.

Thinking about plates when I get new suspension. I was only going to do there upper mounts as FCP has them on sale for the 4th and I am refreshing everything I can do with my own tools.
