does the M have an audible chirp when locking/unlocking?

I see you can choose this is the owners manual but I have no audible setting option when going in through settings>locks in iDrive.

I Menu --> Settings --> Vehicle/Tires --> Door Locks --> Confirmation

Then these options will come up:
o Flash when locking
o Flash when unlocking
o Acoustic confirm. when locking
o Acoustic confirm. when unlocking

Select both of the Acoustic option

You sure you don't have the alarm?

I don't have the bottom two options and I don't have the alarm.

I have the alarm, I guess that's what the reprogramming is for at the dealership I guess.

The manual doesn't state if the acoustics confirmation require the alarm tho.

WTF? I assumed I had the alarm. The car was ordered with every option, but I don't ever recall the alarm being it's own option.

I don't have the two "acoustic confirms" within that menu.

Lame. Can the dealer can do something about this via reprogramming?

The Alarm is pre-wired you still need to add the alarm if you want it.

BMW is wierd on this. E46 was the same way. You need to buy the alarm modules ($311 list - inside motion detector and jacking sensor/siren) and install them (less than 1 hour) or have the dealer install them, then have the vehicle coded for the alarm.

You're right..it doesn't. I wouldn't have known about the acoustic option if I didn't read it in the manual first. So don't assume someone hasn't read the manual. I know many people post questions without reading the manual to begin with, but I would only chime in to a forum of expert enthusiasts if I couldn't figure out the problem myself or from the manual.

Back to the original topic...I just don't feel as comfortable when I lock my car and don't hear a chirp or horn. Hopefully there will be another way to activate this without purchasing the alarm from BMW. My salesman told me the alarm is useless lol

Owner's manual and alarm

Actually, it gives you a clue. See that asterick: "7. Select the desired signal*."? As it says on page 4, "* Indicates special equipment, country-specific equipment and optional extras, as well as equipment and functions not yet available at the time of printing."

It would be nice if they would give you more specifics about why the asterick is next to different items like "* Requires accessory alarm installation and programming."

Alarm worth the money?

I think so. It's good to have the "clown nose" activated as a deterrent; and the alarm could be of some use if someone tries to steal your wheels or flatbed the car, or even in a smash and grab situation. It also gives you the panic button feature.

Uh Hi guys, sorry to come in so late

I DO NOT have the alarm, copy DO NOT, and I get the chirp

Sorry if this throws off your theories

The alarm ISN'T an option, you have to ask them for it post-purchase, I opted not to have it. But i still have the chirp. I like the chirp

I had the alarm installed today. It has the panic alert but can't make it chirp. Those two options are nto available via idrive.

Did you have this done by a dealer? Just installing the alarm does not make it fully functional. The vehicle must be "coded" for the alarm by a dealer for full functionality. Expect to pay around 1 hour labor for this in addition to the installation.
