Possible damage to car

Hi

I need any mechanics to advise me on a car jack falling

The car fell whilst I was removing the rear tyre even though it was on a flat ground. As far as I could see the damage I can see is the scrape of the circular part. It has left a significant amount of damage on the drive. Should I replace the part ?
I have attached some pictures.

That looks like a considerable hole in the ground...

Are you sure nothing else hit the ground, brake discs etc ?

No the brake disc were not damaged, the only part that hit the ground was the suspension part pictured, to me it looks like cosmetic damage, but I want peace of mind before I drive the car, as I do not want cause any further damage to the car

When the jack fell - was the car sitting on it for a considerable amount of time ?
I don't have much mechanical knowledge but the cars weight on a small piece may have caused some structural damage..
Just me 2 cents, I'm sure others will advise ..
Hopefully it's not caused you any damage !

As long as nothing is split or cracked I'd not worry. It's happened to me too, with a megane. Quite a shock when it happens isn't it.

Main thing is you weren't under it at the time.

I've had cars fall off a jack in the past, although nothing the weight of a BMW, but damage (to the car) looks fairly superficial however, you'll never get a definitive answer looking at a few grainy photographs. If you're not sure by looking at it first hand how much damage was done, and you want full peace of mind, you should get it examined by a qualified mechanic.

i think there is a 90% chance your fine!

worst case scenario i'd say would be that link is cracked or something got bent, which may not be obvious at first but may show up as an alignment issue...?

if it was me id have a good look at it, clean off the white mark which i'm guessing is powdered concrete and have a good look for cracks ect, then drive it and see.... but thats just my personal approach!

if your worried something is bent, compare it to the other side, measure bits ect.
they are a heavy car, but its not all the weight of the car on that one point as there will have been other points of contact with the ground.

i had a car fall off the jack (cars own rubbish one) when i was about 17, that was a lesson learnt! both my legs were either side of the disk and i saw it move and jumped out of there quick!! it landed on the disk and all was fine, it was a small 205 though. learnt a lot that day!!

+1 on hopefully lesson learnt here. I'm sure it's happened to the best of us at some point but it does make you realise how easy it is or an accident to happen... imagine that dropping on your legs. Or worse.

Is it the hub that's damaged? They're quite tough so I wouldn't be too worried. I would get an alignment check and a good look on a ramp.
