Max boost pressure on stock turbo
Hi All
Just in process of doing some custom remapping plus installing water meth and wondered what a stock recon turbo from a 3.0d m57n2 engine can safely handle in terms of boost pressure in either bar/p.s.i. I believe they range from 1.2-1.5bar / 17-22 p.s.i but correct me if im wrong? Thanks

Tons of threads on here but like he said stock is around 26psi and depending on the tune / mods it varies

With my EWG, I could make 42-44psi on stock turbos. The problem is the stock turbos are way out of their efficiency range and excessive EMPs. Emps were well above the max recorded value of 58.xx psi. I believe 37-38psi has been proven optimum with the stock turbos.

In my opinion about 35 psi at the intake manifold is optimal for stock turbos. More boost means more heat which means less dense air. Also, to get 35 psi at the intake, pre intercooler boost will be higher.

Yes and to make more boost the exhaust pressure will be higher, limited by the flow of the stock wheels.
There's also a point where too much emp can cause exhaust valves to stay open (acting like egr, forcing exhaust gasses back into cylinders) |
