Gulf Livery Wrap

Decided to wrap the car from White with Orange to a Gulf Livery

The car is second in the points in SCCA Pro-Solo this year and will run for the championship in Sept. Pretty good chance of winning or at least being on the podium.

I have had to rebuild the setup on the car since 2012. In 2012 I stopped racing for until last year. The new build has been a pain in a lot of way but is a lot better than the old setup and the car has a chance to win instead of just run for the last of the trophies at this point.

The new setup has put the car with 4 wins and a 2 place in 5 starts in some big fields with the cars and drivers that won the class in 2016. In index the has indexed high when we were running new tires. Its indexed in the ton 10 two times out about 170 drivers.

Setup changes

I removed the koni d/a s from the car. Still have them and would sell them cheap. I put on new DA's that a local shop can work on. The Koni s have to go back to Koni to be worked on.

I removed the big H & R bar and went back to the E93 bar on the front.

There are 20 wheels (5 sets) for the car and the 18's have solved some of the issues of getting off of the corners.

Tire wise, we are running BFG's or Bridge stones as wide as 275 in the front and 315 in the rear with class legal spacing.

Had a cat back built by Vorshlag (terry Fair). Its making more low end torque.

On course we are the fastest car between elements. The 60 foot times are faster than the vetts in class. The AWD cars are still fastest at 60 but not so much we can run them down on course.

There is a real shock the world moment coming if it wins the pro-solo finale in a month as it will win the season if it does. That is a long ways from where the car was in 2012.

These seem like quite mild modifications for the massive improvement in results. I suspect there is a substantial driver component to this. My hat is off to you!

Class rules are Stock plus a few things, so not much you can do to the car as far as putting parts on it. But there has been a complete sorting of the car to get it on a National pace.

Good luck at Nationals! Hope the 1M and new setup perform well!

Do you mind shedding light on what your new D/As are after Nationals?

Yes, I would like to hold back on setup until after nats but will be willing to answer most anything after that.

The issue has always been no one else for a data point. Only 2 others run and honestly non of us has put the time in to build a winner until now being me.

A change in shock absorber alone can transform a car so I'm curious to hear what that setup is. If it's less than a set of Ohlins or JRZ then I am very much interested.

As i recall.. most of the original 1M SCCA autocrossers were running 19" wheels and tires.

From what I am reading it sounds like 18s definitely are the way to go... Glad to see you switched Kerry and the new colors look good.

The BFG R1 tire very much suits the 1M fenders and also has a massive contact patch in both 275 and 285 for an 18. Going with 315/30/18 in the rear is amazing as well for getting the power down off the corner although it does make the car even more of a point and shoot is what I felt like.

From the videos I can tell the car is much more planted at the rear and the rear "twitch" seems to be much less evident.

I'll get Jeremy's up later in the week.

We are running for the regular Autocross championship the next 2 days. It's 45 degrees for, about 30 degrees cooler for this one I feel we will be ok.
