Whooshing noise accelleration 430d
Hello, i'm starting this thread because i'm a little concerned about a whooshing noise i hear if ..say.. i want to accellerate a bit more than usual, i'm not talking about bolting my feet on the pedal, just brilliant accelleration... . It is mostly noticeable windows down from expecially from 0 to 30mph ish (after that the tyre and wind noise is higher ) .
During my planned service 5 months ago i did mention it at the bmw dealership about that noise and i showed the mechanic what you can see and hear in the video and he said to me that everything is normal it is just the air rushing in the air intake. Now I am asking to the 330d/430d owners, is it normal, should i bring it to a non bmw garage and have it looked further? Thanks |

i think its normal as its turbo suction

My 330d seems quieter than that when I check.
That sounded like air is a bit restricted.

Your car doesn't have the noise cowell fitted to the top of the engine which may quieten what you are hearing. Did you take it off or was it always like that .?

Did you ever get to the bottom of this sound? I have just picked up a 2015 430D and I think it makes this noise between 1500 and 2500rpm approx. Not under full load, just when feathering the accelerator. Its booked in to BMW Wednesday to have a look under warranty. It almost sounds like a dump valve/boost leak. But when hard accelerating when the turbo is making full boost there is no noise, which would be counter intuitive if it was a boost leak, in my eyes anyway. Cheers G |

Hello, any solution? I have just checked that there is a lot of post asking about this sound, but I can't find any "clear" explanation, mine do this also. 2016 430D GC

Generally if you can only hear the whoosh sound with the windows down it’s normal. If it’s that loud you can hear it with the windows closed I would say it’s not normal and their could be a boost leak.

We have a 328D with very similar sound during acceleration. Found a bent tip of one turbo blades. Excessive shaft play but no scoring in the throat. Wife's daily driver so I don't know when the noise started. I assumed it couldn't be too serious since it seems to run fine. Probably about 800 miles since I became aware of the noise. Car is still running with no codes.

You won´t get a fault code for this type of things, since they are not monitored by a sensor...
