BWM Option 2 full maintenance package
Hi everyone, happy to become a member here.
I have just purchased a 325i.(my first bmw) The dealer is asking me if i should purchase the full maintenance package for 799CAD plus 14% tax. what this package gives me is 3 years (or 60000km) of maintenance of tear and wear items: brake pads, rotors, engine belts, wiper blades. Below is a link to the package information. Option 2. http://www.bmw.ca/service/service_ma...ce.asp?lang=en I now have 2 questions if you members can help me out. 1). How often do u ppl change brake pads and reline rotors? (about how many km or miles?) 2). Is it worse it to buy the option 2 package? I would really appreciate with ur info. thx. |

For starters, according to the Web site, option 2 is $749, not $799.

I love this forum. Again thx for the fast reply. The dealer told me it is 799 plus 14%. But anyway, my main concern now is should I buy that option? |

I say no. The only people that make money with "extra warrenties" are the dealers. Look at Future Shop and Best Buy - they treat you like gold until you turn down the extended warrenty. Stay away...

I don't have the answer for you, but would like to suggest a way for you to think about this.
Try and itemize the $799. For example brakes and rotars are X. Probably to be replaced 1 time in this number of km. Wiper blades are Y. Need two of those, etc. Then go onto an e46 forum and ask those owners what costs they have incurred and see if your math agrees with their experience. My father-in-law has an e46 with 80k miles, and his clutch has never needed work and feels great. However, he needs brakes and rotors every 30k miles or so. Call an independent shop and ask them how much for brakes and rotors. I think you will get a feel for the costs you will incur over the next few years, and then you can make a decision that you will be comfortable with. Best of luck, keep us posted. |

The only thing I can suggest is to ask the dealer what services you will definitely require based on the number of km you drive - and then have the dealer price those.
Once you do that, you will have a baselin and you can compare with the $749 price (once you point out to the dealer that the Web site says $749 for 6 cyl. cars).

Thank u all for ur inputs. i will ask the dealer about how much to replace brake pad and reline the rotors and labour.
I asked a fd of my and he answered me that his e46 needs brake about 50000km. ONE MORE IMPORTANT QUESTION HERE: THE BMW.CA WEBSITE SAYS 4 YEARS/800000KM MAINTENANCE SERVICE AFTER I CUSTOM BUILD THE CAR IN THE REPORT. IS IT REALLY 4 YEARS OR 3 YEARS? THX. |

The link you gave was for the 2005 model year, not E90. All E90's in Canada come with the full 80K maintenance. No Charge!!! It takes some work to navigate the site but I did find 80K no charge service & maintenance(brake pads, rotors filters etc) on all E90's.
Your dealer is either mistaken or more likely trying to hose you. |
