E92 auto dimming mirror

Hi guys, how do I find out if my mirrors are auto dimming?
Is there a way find out from my cars VIN?

The mirror glass will have a small (5mm diamter) circular lens in the top centre of the mirror that detects headlights of cars behind you and activates the dipping mechanism.

yes,the vin on free vin check will give it as an option the car got,mine has it,not many others but does have this dipping mirror.

ok, so that means then that I have auto dimming mirror. I do have a little empty circle in the top center of my rear view mirror.
Does this mean that I have auto dimming side mirrors too?

i know now that my rear view mirror is autodimming. Does this mean my side mirrors are auto dimming too?

I've never heard of autodimming side mirrors. Don't think it would work. The interior mirrors uses the extra layer of glass as the 'mirror' when dipped. The side mirrors are one piece, so if the mirror 'dipped' you'd loose all rearward vision...

The autodim rear & door mirrors are electro-chromatic. They have a gel between two pieces of glass & the gel reacts to a electrical charge

I thought I just did but to clarify, yes they do I have them on my e92 35i

You have following options;
1- BMW without any dip option (so inner mirror does not dim)
2- Inner mirror dim (as mentioned above that there is small circular thing)
3- Option 2+ folding and auto dip passenger mirror
4- Option 3 and auto dimming side mirror

To check option 4, you find the small rectangular box on back right side of central mirror. This rectangular box is facing forward. Put you finger on it so it get the impression that its dark outside.

Now turn on the flash light / torch on your phone and take it close to the small circular thing (which is facing toward you and it mimics that there is a car behind you with lights on). Your central mirror will auto dim and if your exterior mirrors are one with auto-dimming option, they will become dark as well.

you can tell if your side mirrors are auto dimming - they have a second layer of material on them that doesn't quite fit the entire mirror.

I tried the test mentioned and my side mirrors do not dimm when my rear is dimming

thats false. My rear window is tinted and my rear view mirror dimms

i was not saying thats what heappens..i was asking the question.since i have not drove my car in the dark and very rarely do..so i do not know.

I'm sure I have the auto dimming rear view but I've never noticed it work. I will have to try Makkan's test above.

Auto dimming (electro chromatic) side mirrors are listed in a VIN check if you have them.

My car does.

Auto dim mirrors on my e91. Car came with option 3 noted above, so auto dim rear view mirror (car has factory tinted rear windows and works fine) with powerfold side mirrors and auto dip passenger mirror. Had to code the option for interior AND exterior auto dim mirrors and add it to the vehicle order. Works great, very cool feature that I didn't even know I needed but now I have it will always want it.
