Help identifying part in engine. Pics inside.
Hi. Recently had CBU cleaning done. Was under the car yesterday and noticed what seems to be a fresh oil leak. Tracked it down to what might be this part as I noticed the hose is torn/not connected. But I'm not sure of the part or what it does. Oil level hasn't gone down so perhaps this is where a catch can might go? Appreciate the help.
This part seems to run the length of the intake. Just beside the oil filler cap. Also noticed a plastic part is snapped/broken at the bend. Last edited by 330MX; 08-05-2017 at 05:38 PM.. |

Any more info on the updated hose? Can I keep driving like this for a period of time? Or should I buy the existing replacement option?

Depends on how much oil is in your ccv system. If that hose is broken your ccv system won't vent your crankcase as well, but the amount of oil may not be that bad. With how mine vented when I had it vented to atmosphere I would think you'd be ok for a little while. Really it would be fine forever as long as all the built up oil on your turbo didn't catch on fire😆

If that CCV hose is cracked/broke then your intake system is no longer sealed and you will be sucking un-filtered air into the turbo compressor wheel, then through the intercooler and into the engine. This is something that should be fixed ASAP.

It is part # 13717808158. The realoem link has a poor depiction of it and is item #5 called "hose". Double check on internet please. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=13_1191 Wow, the price has went up. Here is link to my local dealer that has wholesale part prices if you buy throught their internet site. https://www.advantagebmwparts.com/oe...ZyPWxheWVyXzEz $146. I paid more like $60 IIRC but this was ~ 2 yrs ago and i got it from Husker.. I will go look at records and check husker price again. Husker price is $149. see that link below. As parts get older, bmw cranks up their costs. Hopefully i paid more and my memory is poor as that is a big change in cost if the 60 bucks is accurate. https://www.bmwdirectparts.com/oem-p...ZyPWxheWVyXzEz Last edited by BB_cuda; 08-06-2017 at 08:43 AM.. |

Guys let me help here. When i did my swirl flap delete i broke mine when i took it off and was cleaning it because i am an idiot. So rather then go through this again i bought some -16 earls pro lite 350 hose and used that to replace the broken plastic, you only need 1 foot and i actually got mine for free. The good news with this part, thats the ccv heater grid transfer tube, is that it comes apart and has barbed fittings on the ends so you can clamp a hose in between.
So you need good hose and it cant be steel braided because it will never stretch over the barbs and it has to be thin enough to wedge in next to the turbo . I tried several brands of hose and the only one so far that worked perfect is the earls. You can look up pro lite 350 to read the specs but it ticks all the boxes and it's easy to cut real easy. I used less than 6 inches. I suggest using 7/8 heater hose to cut for length first. Once length is good use that as a templet to cut the good hose. Also i got clamps for the local hose shop with the smooth bore silicone safe. 7/8 hose sill stretch over the barbs and thats what i originally used in the emergency. Be very careful removing plastic as it can easily crack and everything has o-rings inside them. You obviously have to remove the turbo inlet tube and airbox to get to all this stuff. |

Thank you guys for additional info. Cuda - that is definitely the piece that broke - right in the middle of the accordion portion.
Tuscon - did you use the earls hose to replace this middle section only? Believe that is what you are saying. Is there a DIY on accessing and removing this CCV hose? Seems like it might all be accessible from above. Thanks. |

Yes i only replaced the hose in between. There are 2 ccv heaters one top one bottom. The entire assembly will unclip and come apart and then undo the metal clamps on the plastic tube. Lemme try and upload them

Tuscon, I paste pictures into powerpoint slide and then added any labels with text boxes and arrows [but not necessary]. I then save the file as a .jpg and the file is smaller. If one is posting a DIY with info in those pictures, this is the way to go. The only thing is you have to save each slide into a .jpg file name separately. You can do them all at once but then it is goofy and saves each .jpg to a separate/newly created folder. It's just easier to do each slide separately and save all .jpg to same folder. Thanks for the tip on pro lite 350 hose. No way i will pay the $150 for next rib hose that cracks.

I have ordered three feet of the hose that Tuscon recommends. I'll certainly have extra so if anyone needs some please let me know. Probably will be here end of week. I plan on taking photos of the process for DIY.

330MX, glad to hear you are buying the hose that Tuscon pointed you to. I went and looked at my purchase records. I got this OEM assembly from Husker in November 2015 for $64.68 as part of a bigger order totaling $174. The shipping was a bargain at $11. So, I do confirm the hose assembly went from $65 to $149 in 21 months. I don't know if there was a design update or not though. This could have triggered a cost change. Time to go back to realoem and see if there is a date in the records.
EDIT: No date before/after in the realoem records. |

Hey thanks for reposting those lol. Ill have to learn how to do it. I dont have power point. It will be easier just to take them with my second phone and set the resolution lower maybe. So far hose works awesome for me no issues.
