535d Question
A friend is looking to go for the 5 series diesel platform for his next BMW purchase. From what I've gathered so far the available US version is the 2011+ f10 535d 6 cylinder single turbo w/8 speed trans. Is this correct? I'm aware of the smaller 4 cylinder options, but don't think that is going to be of any interest. I assume CBU would be an issue to keep an eye on along with the usual 335d "routine" maintenance. Any other info on the US 535d is greatly appreciated, thanks!

The newer 5 series diesel does not yet appear to be available in the USA/CA, but is alleged to be an M550d quad-turbo. I thought that the N57 was available but don't see it... CBU does not appear to be a problem with the N57 at this time. |

The North American 535d became available for production year 2014. It is a single turbo with a double scroll which to me gives a similar effect of a twin turbo and it is similar to the European 530d.
It was available until the end of production year 2016. Available options included most if not all that was available for the 535i gasoline version, including all wheel drive and M-sport package. The technical goody list was quite long and distinguished. The 8 speed ZF automatic "torque converter = conventional" transmission is quite highly regarded. CBU is almost unheard of from my perspective as it is a newer design compared to the North American 335d. There is a huge improvement in driveability and fuel economy compared to the 335d. PL |
