Oil change - does Condition Based account for regular short drives?

hi all

Was wondering whether the Condition Based servicing on an 09 E90 335i should take into account that I only make short trips usually (less than 5km)?

The oil change interval never seems to vary, and I know I should change my oil more often than every 2 years.

Related question, what size tool do I need to remove the oil filter cover on an N54? Would an 86mm universal like this work:

thank you

According to this, it does take oil quality deterioration into account:

You don't need a specific tool to remove the oil filter cover. A basic strap wrench will do the job...

Yes, it does take it into account, but I believe the recommendation is to follow CBS or at least change it every year. It doesn't take that time frame into account, so just change it every year if you're not reaching the mileage.

The cap is 86mm, but if I remember right it has 16 flutes. That tool seems to have 18.

I don't know what you have available in AU, but this one works well: https://www.pepboys.com/product/details/293992/01401

You may be able to find it somewhere there. It's also on Amazon if that's an option. If it's not overtightened then you can use a strap wrench or normal pliers with rags and carefully open it. If it's been overtighened by whoever did it last then I'd recommend using the correct cap tool.

thanks guys,
Phil, I never realised the oil sensor was that complex, I thought it was just a simple level checker.

cheers
