Engine Mounts replacement
Hi all of you !
My shift knob is lightly shaking while engine is running. Same feeling I got when I touched engine bay. Scanner shows me venting system failure. From what I hear it might be engine mounts cause my car is close to 100k. What do u guys think about it ?? What's the easiest way to replace engine mounts myself ? Any recommendation for mounts ? |

I think the mounts are fine. My car has 3 times that mileage and is on the original mounts. Check the trans mounts.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

And while you're checking, fit a pair of Rogue Engineering uprated mounts - you'll be glad you did...

Unless you're getting lots of shaking or rattling then you're gonna have to get underneath and visually inspect them. I was getting very bad shaking and rattling and when I finally did them I found one side totally collapsed and the engine bracket was just sitting on the mount.
It took me a day to do both sides on my 08 328i e93. It was that it was difficult but a PITA cause of the tight space. |

Check the oil pan gasket DIY, it covers everything you need to do to get to the motor mounts. I believe it's also possible to get the mounts out without lowering the subframe, but it's so much easier to lower it and probably adds less than half hour of extra work if you don't encounter any issues.

No need to drop the subframe. That's a lot of extra work if you're not doing the oil pan gasket or something that needs the subframe lowered. Plus on just jackstands the space is pretty tight underneath already and lowering it is really going to limit your movement down there.
The right one is easy as there's plenty of space to wiggle it out. I was wondering how the heck am I gonna get the left one out because it is very cramp on that side. But someone suggested removing the shield that protects the brake and fuel lines. That made it so much easier. 10 mins and the left one was out as well. I followed this diy: http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/tech...eplacement.htm |
