M2 brake issues with OEM pads

Early in this year's track season I did two track days at Watkins Glen with my completely stock M2. As I previously reported, the OEM brake pads are not up to the task if you are an advanced HPDE driver. My OEM pads left a series of lumpy deposits on my rotors. The deposits were so bad that it felt like I warped the rotors.

Based on advice from this board, I upgraded to Pagid RS29s for my next track days. Much to my chagrin, the new pads did not immediately cure the problem. However, I'm pleased to report that the problem is finally resolved. In fact, over the past few weeks, I've had very smooth brakes both on track and off the track. In fact, yesterday I switched back to OEM street pads and my brakes are super smooth.

Take my advice and don't run OEM pads on track with the M2. The pain of resolving the issue I had took way too long.

Appreciate the heads up and have followed this path. I did my first-ever HDPE back in May and experienced a little bit of brake shudder late in afternoon day 1 sessions and all day 2 sessions. I'm on RS29's + stainless lines + DOT4 fluid now and have my second-ever HDPE this weekend. I'm not an advanced track driver (yet), but hopeful I don't experience any rotor issues.

Get a rotor hone and attach it to a cordless drill. Take your rotors off and clean off all the deposits and re-bed your track pads. Don't use OEM pads on the track anymore.

Regarding the deposits, if you use the track/race pads for regular street driving, for a day or two following the event, so they are outside their operating temp (cold), they will resurface the rotors and "clean" any bedded pad material from the rotors before you swap back to your street pads. This the SOP I used w/my M4 (gray iron rotor standard brakes...same as the M2) and I have had very good luck w/the original factory rotors for 15+ track events. I used factory pads for DD and Pagid RSL-1 and RS-29 for the race track...swapped in/out for each event. No brake deposits/judder when following the approach I mention. Good luck!

The RS29s squeal like a city bus on the street. I love the visual impact of a half a dozen swiveling heads when I roll into the gas station. Gotta love the squeal!

Why not Carbotech or G-Loc? (new brake company created by original founders of Carbotech)

Had the same issue with Ferodo DS2500, but on the rear disc. Was driving on track in Sport+ mode, someone told me it could be due to the DSC. I switched to Pagid RS29 and it didn't clean the disc even on open road with cold braking. Finally the problem has been fixed (or significantly reduced) by an aggressive bedding with OEM pads.

Cold track/race pads are great at cleaning the rotor of uneven deposits!

I know we have a million threads about brake pads but I'm wondering if anyone has had any issues getting BMW to replace the rotors (when they are actually worn down) and not having the stock pads worn down...in the case of using race pads on the track.

Anybody have any push back? I'm assuming you have BMW Comfort Care+ which includes rotors/pads

I do the same...I switch between oem factory pads on the street and Endless ME-20 for track(zero issues, no deposit, no judder).

We should look into what they cost here in the US.

It's definitely much less expensive here in the US for a full set of Endless ME20's.
