2007 328xi transmission issues

Hi everyone. I have a 2007 E92 328xi and the GA6L45R transmission. When drive the car for the first time every day it is very reluctant to shift into second gear. The transmission is very jerky, clunks and slips a lot. It does this for the first two minutes of driving every day. Now the transmission has started slipping sometimes after it's up to operating temp. Last week it slipped up to 4,000 RPM and then popped into gear. The car was almost at operating temp when this happened. I have 73,300 miles on my car and I had the fluid+filter changed by a BMW specialist at 66,000 miles trying to remedy this issue but it did not make it any better or any worse. Do I need to dump the car ASAP or is it ok? Thanks in advance!

transmission slip is not OK at all. if you changed the solenoids while you were in there changing the fluid that would help, but I'm not sure it would help the slipping.

I suspect your unit is toast.

Yikes okay. I bought this car 7 months ago to replace my Acura that had tranny issues too. I can't win Thinking about buying a CPO 2015 Dodge Charger R/T with the lifetime bumper to bumper warranty

R/T is slow and heavy. Exhaust is awesome.

Whatever you pick buy manual tranny !

jesus christ no, not a dodge!

you're just on a string of bad luck I suppose. I would go to a transmission specialty shop (not necessarily an indy) and see what they have to say about your transmission.

I know a guy at the local BMW dealer and he's gonna check out my transmission when I drop it off for the airbag recall on the 19th. I'm really interested in the Dodge because I'm currently a senior in High school and the lifetime warranty with only a $100 deductible is very appealing to me since I'm sick and tired of having these massive repair bills pop up.

5.1 sec 0-60 ain't bad. I don't need to go fast anyways though. My insurance is expensive enough without tickets! It's got a ZF 8-speed automatic too since no manuals are offered in the Charger.

you just gotta know where to look. I have the same mileage on both my BMW's and neither of them have any transmission issues.

the dodge might look good because of all the deals you get, but in reality it is a shit car. have you sat in one before? appalling interior. rattly, always annoying little things breaking, terrible seating position, handles like a boat. 5.1 seconds to 60 is pathetic for a v8 with over 400hp.

it may have a ZF, but it was tuned by dodge which basically means its a shit transmission and wont be any more reliable then the vehicles you've had in the past. trust me, you wont be happy with the charger and especially not in the long run.

my suggestion? get rid of your current BMW asap and just keep looking for another BMW. find one in good condition that doesnt consume oil, and just buy a manual transmission to be safe. you'll get a car that is more refined, much more fun to drive, better calibrated and smoother drivetrain and a true quality vehicle over the inferior dodge.

you're on a bad strike right now with the transmissions, and I bet you that the original owners of your previous acura and current BMW are to blame, not the car itself. just be patient and trust me when i say that you should avoid going over to dodge at all costs. they are pieces of shit.

on paper is fast sure . But go test drive one and you ll see what I mean. Maybe slow is not the right word for it , but it sure does not feel fast

It may have to do with how heavy it is and how big it feels. Compare to a mustang gt or camaro SS the challenger feels slow.

I would highly advise going for the scatpack SRT , day and night difference.

I love the challenger, it looks nicer than the stang and camaro.

I get that the Dodge isn't the most reliable thing in the world, but since the lifetime warranty pays for all the repairs it doesn't bother me. The one I'm looking at has only 22,000 miles and its a one owner. Has the 5.7 Hemi with 370 hp and 395 torque. I sat inside one yesterday and the interior isn't bad. Sure its not as tightly screwed together as the E92 but all the touch points are soft to the touch. I'm not concerned about rattles either, my E92 creaks and rattles all the time. I'm gonna have this car through 4 years of college and at least 2 more after that. The lifetime warranty more than makes up for anything bad on the car. I get that BMW's are way nicer but the cost of ownership is just so much higher.

the warranty isn't going to cover the fact that you're going to be driving one of the lowest quality, most inferior vehicles on the market at the very bottom of the list down there with GM. it just isnt a good quality car

GM's aren't that bad anymore either. I would totally agree with you that 5 years ago American cars were garbage which is why the only American car my family owns is a 1970 Plymouth Cuda. But the newer ones like that Charger are way better than what they used to be. If the transmission in my BMW lasted longer than 75,000 miles I'd be more keen to jump into another one but as of now I'm just kinda turned off of the brand from an ownership standpoint. Don't get me wrong, BMW is still my favorite car brand and I will have an E92 M3 in my life one day but it just can't be my next car. I need something pretty new and with low miles and know that a warranty has got my back in case something like this happens again.

my friend has the exact same charger , exact same blue but the R/T scatpack which has like 500 HP , its fast . Funny enough he drove it for like 5 months , then bought a E350 and the charger has been parked at worked collecting dust for the past 5 months.

He regrets getting it as it's nowhere near as luxurious as the Mercedes. He tested the RT and he thought it was slow compared to his camaro SS ( which is what he traded)

I have tested the challenger RT last month and I can confirm that the car felt heavy and slow for a muscle car.

Do it! Then add the supercharger kit that brings it right behind the hellcat...or that 125 shot of nitrous....

considering that challengers cost more than camaro's and mustang's and a supercharger kit is like 10 k , OP is better off just getting and R/T scatpack with 490 HP from factory and other goodies.

challenger's with the right package ( hellcat, scatpack ) are the best muscle car for me and they do not depreciate as much .

I'm a senior in high school. I couldn't even imagine what the insurance on the Scat Pack would be.

Could this transmission issue be software related like the 2007-08 X3 issue? I have an intermittent hesitation issue like those cars do.

Hey, st8-6ix.

What you said is your usual garbage. Telling the OP his trans is toast when you have the qualifications of a tooth pick. You're saying all your normal stuff about American car anything. You're easy to spot.

You should be on college forums. In fact, please go there and join a debate club. It would help you and everyone you meet for the rest of your life. You'll be considered a contributing member of society. It'll be great.

In the meantime we don't want to hear your poorly interpreted opinion of everything you read on the internet.
