Trying to put together a mod list on my 335 for a local gent and forum member ( ), and just want to make sure everyone involved gets a fair price. I know nobody ever gets their cost back on modified cars, but he is interested in purchasing it modified so I have to come up with something.

This is the car (although it has aftermarket wheels, black grills, CF emblems, etc. now):

So, what would be a fair price for all of this? I was thinking around $18k, but I really have no idea.

I think 18k is fair. The book value is 13k on your car, so with the mods you have i can see it getting 18.

Maybe ask for 20k and settle on 18k.

You'd probably get way more money back if you parted it out though.

You can probably at least get 60cents on the dollars you spent.

IMO if the car has been maintained well, I would consider $18k a fair price. I agree tho, you could probably make more money parting it out and selling stock, although that is more hassle. Btw, where did you get gloss black grills for $30?

Yeah 18 seems reasonable but as stated above I think you?ll get your money back and then some if you sell those parts separate and sell the 335 as stock

Sorry but that's rather naive. While you will certainly never get back your money for modifications, suggesting that they will remove that much value from the car irrespective of their purpose or cost is silly.

Commonly speaking, adding mods only reduce the sale price of the car(dealership BS). I would say you only get 30%-50% of what the good quality aftermarket parts worth.

Which is why you're lucky if you find someone who wants to buy such a heavily modded 8 year old BMW long out of warranty with 90,000 miles on it.

In the end its only worth what someone is willing to pay.

Just all kinds of wrong here. Following this logic means a more heavily modded vehicle will need to be given away free with a cash stipend for taking it off the seller's hands. LOL

OP, did you accidentally transpose the Race Doc 6266 price? I see it as $4,595.00 on their site.
Any of the original parts like fenders, front clip, etc, going with it, or were they sold before?

All that being said, OP, in my area that year, options, and mileage would go for ~$13-15k stock. With all your new stock and aftermarket parts, again, it depends on what another buyer in his own area thinks they're worth, but between all the tasteful visual mods like the fenders and M1 front clip, the 2 sets of wheels and tires, and everything else, I don't see why $18k or more is out of line. Again though, all depends on "the buyer's desires".

i think people are confusing how much the car is worth to the dealer and how much its worth to a car enthusiast.

If the OP buyer is interested in his heavily modified car, then the buyer was already looking for a car that has been modded already so the mods have value for them.

If its the dealership or a dad looking for a safe car for his 16yr old kid, then yes the car would be worth less in his eyes.

The enthusiast market is probably only 1% of the bmw customer base, so the OP is better parting it out to expand his customer base he can sell too. But its up to the seller.

As others have said, cars only worth as much as anyone is willing to pay.

Car enthusiast models usually sell above book value....ie, supra, sti's, wrx's, porsches except a 996 cough cough.

My buddies 350z with 160k only has a book value $2500 but he was able to easily sell it for $5500.

What is the price difference between the stock part and the mod? You will not recoup the investment of the mod unless you find that one person that likes the mod. Then you'd only recover a percentage of the investment if any. How well maintained is the vehicle? That should be the stack of receipts shown to potential buyers.

Probably take the actual cost of each modification and times it by .66 and that's probably what they are worth in addition to the blue/black book value of the car.
