e9X 335i value plummeting. Anyone foresee value coming back?

Its nearly sickening to see how cheap the e9x 335i can be had these days. At this point its nearly useless to sell or trade in a 2010 with 65k. I have room for it in the garage, should I hold onto it for a few years in hopes of a resurgence?

They sold a zillion of them. No catalyst for a resurgence in value anytime soon.

It's all downhill from here. The only e9X I see going up in value or holding a decent amount is the 335is and the M cars, but that's way way way down the line.

You should hold on to it if you still enjoy driving it, but I would be utterly stunned if a car like the 335i ever started to gain value. I just don't see it ever happening.

Yea it really is kind of amazing they are so cheap. My friend (not a BMW guy at all) and I were just commenting how at this point they are so cheap they actually would make a pretty good cheap track car.

They'll be getting cheaper and cheaper with each passing day. Used f30's are becoming more plentiful as we approach the end of that chassis' lifecycle. Most people will gravitate towards the newer model when they can afford it.

We'll see M3, 335is, 335 M sports, and e91s in desirable trim hold value much better than other more plentiful configurations. Take a look at e46 pricing if you're curious to see what's coming. 6MT M3's, 6MT 330 ZHP's and 5MT rwd wagons have held their value much better than the rest.

It's because:

1) The 3 series is always going to be the poor mans starter BMW
2) The N54 is proving to be shit...turbos are garbage, injectors fail, engines ticking, etc etc.

Value coming back? No way. It's only going to get older, more outdated, technology become more obsolete etc. There isn't anything special enough about them, outside of the sentimental value your specific one brings to yourself. There will be more and more other manufacturers that will continue to surpass the performance and fuel efficiency for less money. Who in their right mind would pay $15-20k for a 3 series with 12 year old technology? It hurts to think about it. Don't get me wrong, I love my car but it's going to be driven by myself or someone in the family until it can no longer function. I have had 3 e90 335i's and I have been driving essentially the same damn car for 8 years. I love them. I truly do. But I won't get what it's worth to sell it. I might offload it to some kid who saved up $5k and needs a beater that looks decent.... or not... because I would rather have a $5k beater that looks decent for myself. It's insane. I went looking at 650i Gran Coupes online. You know, the $120-$130k MSRP ones when they came out? Yeah...so 2012-2013 models can be had with under 40k miles for mid $30's. It makes me sick. It it also makes me want to buy one though lol.

335is May hold value.
M3 will hold value.
Maybe even 2006 330 in the states might.
But the standard e90 wont. If anything it?ll keep dropping since the n54 is notorious for its issues. And the f30 is and the next 3 series will be faster and more reliable. Really nothing unique about an e90 335 anymore considering everything coming after it is exactly the same set up.

Certainly don't hold your breath for it happening. 335s galore now. BMW didn't dissapoint selling them. Shake of the head some more factoring repair costs. The E9x is a timeless design too but everything starts looking old after awhile and compare that the F3x are on the last of manufacturing come next year. An N55 335 looks way better than the E9x on paper.

IMO If you like Hydraulic steering and a somewhat decent suspension. Keep it till the wheels fall off.

all european cars fall in value...unless its a ferrari or porsche.

If you want a car that holds value, just buy a subaru. You can buy it new, put 20k on the car and sell back at basically same price you bought it for.

i bought my 2014 wrx for 25k, put 20k mileage on it in 1.5yrs and resold it for $24500

Yeah E9x generation was the first venture by BMW to lease and sell as many cars as possible. It will be marked at a time in BMW's history where QUANTITY (of productions & sales & profit) surpassed QUALITY (production aesthetics, carefully thought out mechanics, reduction in long term maintenance costs, etc...).

I look at my E90 335i everyday and think yeah it is a beautiful car with a great motor and handling BUT I also lament knowing for a fact that at any minute now my great relatively new and low mileage car will break down in many many many more ways than my E36 and E46 combined had those older cars been in my possession and on the road today!

The beauty of long term car ownership lies more in the DIY enjoyment and low cost of long term maintenance. Basically in your father's day yeah he spent Friday night or Saturday morning in the garage tuning up his hot rod and the rest of the weekend at the track or on the roads. With the E90 one can expect spending all weekend and a few paychecks replacing simple things like water pumps and oil gaskets.
When replacing fog lamp bulbs require a hydrolic jack lift and removal of front tires you gotta ask yourself is this car really worth keeping

Is value the only reason why you would want to sell or trade it?
Me, I don't really care for that. I bought my 2010 E92 335 brand new. Love this car and don't plan on getting rid of it.

Yes, Normally I can make a decent trade or sell privately to get myself into a newer car. I really dont mind keeping this one in the stable too much. just a weekend tinker toy. I enjoy maintaining my cars on the weekend. Its just disappointing from a financial standpoint. I know there is normally a loss. just... damn...

Why would you be surprised? A car is transportation and it depreciates with time unless it's considered to be rare or unique. It's not like the 335 is like this car below. The owner told me how much he paid for it in 1978 and it may sell for just under $300K if he decides to sell it.

car values usually don't go up. once it plumets, it's done for. only time it may come up is 10 years from now when it becomes rare and ppl go nuts of "mechanical steering" when aliens take over and start controlling the electrics. oh sorry, i'm dreaming again

but once it's under 10k, it won't drop much. you get into the cash buyer range when cars hold more value. once u hit >70k miles, it gets hard to finance, so it plumets. for this car, thats at the 20k range. so it drops quick to 10k. hard to find someone in this country with 10k+ cash. demand falls as financing sux, rare cash buyers. under 10k, lots of cash buyers, so you get into a different bracket now where your demand goes up again. holds value longer.

look at olde 335i's under 10k, they stay almost stagnant price wise. between 10-20k, feels like there's no floor.

It will definitely come back in value, maybe even exceed cost of new car. just need to wait for it to become a rarity car. Maybe 30-40 years should do it

There are two things happening here:

BMW made 8 bazillion 335's. yours is an XI, and likely automatic, so as a 'collector' it's worth least of all. Plus with the issues these cars are known for and age, it means the market value is low.

The second thing is the overall auto market. Traditional "Car" sales of all makes an models are dropping - even cars like the Camry are selling less and less every year. BMW's sales in NA dropped double digits in the last year (they are in trouble, IMO, which I thought would happen eventually). Everyone is going back to trucks and SUVs, which is the only segment that is still growing. On top of that, all makes - not just BMW - have been pushing leases and trade ins like crazy. There's a huge glut of used cars on the market and nobody to buy them.

However, the flip side is if you wanted to buy a cheap 'toy' car, now would be a great time.. lots of choices and cheap prices.

I see 335's going for less than 7k now. I know mine is worth more than that considering its immaculate but i believe i would be lucky to get 15k anymore. It is what it is, get something rarer next time.
