Logic7 and USB without Nav ...

For those that have Logic 7 and the USB option without the NAV screen, how much of a pain is it to browse the contents of the USB device connected and to select different surround settings?

Can someone link a user manual perhaps?

there is no Logic7 in the M3. either standard or premium audio. and i don't have an m3 yet, but just imagine trying to search through your computer or a directory with only one line of text and no keyboard. that is going to be a pain in the ass.

In some countries Logic7 is available for the M3, also in SA. Unfortunately can't help the OP since all I can say is that it's easy with iDrive.

Best regards, south

my apologies for being a NA customer with the blinders on...i totally forgot that L7 was an option in many other places. still, i can only imagine how much of a pain that would be to navigate a USB stick with that limited display. if you're going that route, why not go premium audio with double hump?

only thought of it now ... ... car is gonna arrive next week maybe, been pushing the dealer for the car ...

EDIT: unless i put everything in the root directory of the usb stick and then browse using the buttons on the wheel, the surround setting will just set it once, like i did in the 335i ...

whatever you do don't get dealer installed USB. I had them put that in my car without iDrive and there is no easy way to search through your music. All it does is give you a list of songs from your iPod, starting with the first song from the first artist, you have to scroll through every song to get to the one you want. Pain in the ass if you want to listen to a song from an artist that starts at the end of the alphabet. I made the dealer take it out and they gave me my money back.

I'm glad I don't have nav.. I hate iDrive. I'm going to install something aftermarket for my iPod with navigation. Still trying to research what's out there that will work in the car. It'll certainly cost less than iDrive, nav, and premium sounds, and will sound way better and be easier to use. I had a 6.5" touch screen system in my last car that was really sweet and user friendly, not sure what will work with the M3 yet. Open for suggestions if anyone has any?

I have premium sound. But do not know what a standard USB device looks like. Have the iPod adapter, it also used the USB port. Its a little slow scrolling through your artists and playlists, but works very well.

Only complaint is there is no shuffle function.

One line of text?!? That's incorrect!...It's actually two! Check it out:

Doesn't look too much of a PITA I guess.

For shuffle, push 2 sec on idrive button while listening a song and display will present options as Tone, details, shuffle play,...
Works unfortunately only with the directory you are in

Logic 7 sounds pretty good actually - much better bass response. Much better than the Bose system in my 997. I have the USB iPod connection with the BMW produced cable and it is a pretty slick system. The screen looks just like my iTunes with all of the playlists preserved and navigating throught the artists is much easier with this generation of i-Drive. The processor is much faster compared to the version in my M5. No delay and functions like any other computer mouse.
