I am missing the 2 automatic transmission bolts that also hold in the bracket that secures the stock inlets. They are about 3 inches long and aluminum. The only bolts i can find online are the smaller bolts, but i don't need those. Can anyone help me out?

I think this is the part number 23001222891 they are 5cm long, or 2 inch.

Nope the bolts were very long with threads down the length of the bolt. The part you listed i bought and realized they're tiny compared to the bolts i need. This is on the right side of the transmission. Ive bought 2 separate sets of bolts that say they fit and they don't.

Why do you think they are aluminum bolts? You have 355 right? Then your engine block is not magnesium so it doesn't need nor would be using aluminum bolts,

Bolt are aluminum never the less. I have replaced the clutch and starter and bolts are aluminum.

I'm not sure if AT is different than MT but as far I remember those two bolts are same as the bolt for the starter. Last April I broke one. I usually reuse bolts. Unless it breaks or damaged in some way. I will check from my work computer to see what I ordered for replacement. It broke while driving it out.

When I bought an oil pan gasket kit it came with extra bolts. These were very long bolts and didn't match anything I removed from the car (manual transmission). I still have these kicking around my garage somewhere.

Edit. Just found the leftover bolts. The longer bolts are 4.5" long. 8mm shaft.

The bolts were very lightweight, weighing nearly nothing as far as i can remember. It looks like #2 is what i may be looking for. The only problem is that i no longer have that bracket, which I'm sure i need in order to fit the bolt properly.

Those very long bolts are for xi/xdrive model oil pans, I think they sell the same oil pan bolt set for xi or rwd for certain model and years. Xi oil pan needs long bolts on the area where passenger side axle enters the oil pan.

I posted the real oem link for op’s model and transmission above. It lists different size bolts, and not aluminium. I don’t know ...

The issue I'm seeing is that #2 on the diagram shows the proper position for the bolt i need (far side of the diagram), but the attached photo on the website shows what looks like the shorter bolt. Should i buy that oil pan bolt set and see what fits?

I have a extra oil pan bolt set I can sell . I do remember when I did my oil pan gasket, I replaced all the bolts holding the oil pan and 2 longer bolts were left that had no place to get screwed into. So those might be the ones you are looking for

This is where the bolts go. There not small. Most diagrams on sites are selling the wrong bolts. I know because I've bought 2 sets already. If you think they're oil pan bolts, then ill buy yours.

The bolt dimensions are listed on the link, and notice it says "1 OR 2" meaning some transmissions will need one #1 and others #2.

The #2 bolt is 75 mm (3 inches) M12x75. #1 is 50 mm M12x50.

Then there is #3 and #6.

You probably need #2 bolt:

02 Torx bolt M12X75 5 23001222893

I would go to nearest BMW dealer's parts department. Ask the guy about what you need, show him or let him show the parts diagram from computer. They will have more information from experience, and will most likely have the bolt on the spot for you to buy.

My guess, just a guess, from factory they put aluminum bolts, that are also used on N52's too. Later on they changed them to steel bolts as parts on the parts list.

Another thing I noticed, if a bolt or bolt set is shared between N52 and N54/55, they didn't issue a different bolt set for each. They go with the common material which is aluminum to use only one set, like the alternator bolt set, or the oil pan bolt set.

The N54 "short engine block" lists to uses the same aluminum transmission bolt set as the N52, but the transmission on N54 lists to be using these what appear steel bolts listed on that link for transmission.

So maybe on the factory floor they used one set of transmission bolts for both engines, that is my guess. But when selling separately they sell steel ones for aluminum blocks, and aluminum ones for magnesium block engines.

But this set is mentioned in both transmission part area and engine block area as part for N52, but only in engine block area as part in N54.

That is why I suspect at factory floor they use same aluminum bolt set for transmission for N52 and N54. But N54 can and looks like is using better steel bolts there.

Again a parts department guy at BMW dealership will know better.

As of production date 09/2012, only steel bolts are installed for the securing of the transmission.

I have my manual transmission pulled right now for the clutch.

These two bolts are aluminum E18 drive on mine and are part of the 5 piece aluminum (also available as single steel) replacement set. Looks like P/N is different for AT (23001222893) indicated as #2 on the realoem diagram. Note for the manual, the aluminum set is only available aftermarket ($11/set for rein on ECS), but the BMW steel single replacements are selling for >$6 each.

Is 23000417164 the bolt that broke on me. I bought new. Came few, like 3, in a package. I replace them and will check after work but I'm sure I got the rest of them. I will take photos. Can text them to you.
