I'm looking into getting a resonator delete on my 2009 328xi and I have a couple questions for anyone who has gotten theirs deleted:

1.) Should I order a Y-pipe and bring it to the muffler shop I plan on going to or should I have them make one?

(1a.) If I should order one what size? 3.0? 2.5? Has anyone ordered a replacement pipe for a resonator delete and brought it to the shop? Do you have a link to what you bought?

2.) how much should a resonator delete cost? One place I went to said it would cost $250

1.) It would be a lot faster and easier for the shop if you brought a Y-Pipe with you. It could be a simple as cutting off your resonator and welding in the already made Y-Pipe. But any reputable shop should be able to make one for you.

1a.) Magnaflow 10758 if you decide to order a Y-Pipe. It is 2.25" dual input to a single 2.5" outlet. I actually ordered one but decided not to install it. I had a free flow muffler installed the same day and that sounded good/loud enough for me.

2.) I paid $150 for a shop to install my free flow muffler. The owner quoted me $60 to install the Y-Pipe. It all depends on the location/shop.

1a.) okay I was confused about that wasn’t sure how to even shop for a part like that, if I had to worry about getting the right size/inlet vs outlet/material etc.

I placed the order for the magnaflow Y-Pipe, should be here tomorrow.
Hopefully it fits. I read the description of the pet and it said it’s a single inlet, dual outlet... which is the reverse of what I need think. The two pipes come from the resonator where it merges into one and goes towards the muffler in the rear of the car.
Don’t know if it matters, it’s just a pipe right?

The Y-Pipe is reversible, could be used either way. But yeah after removing the resonator it should be two 2.25" pipes left which will be welded to the dual outlet/inlet side of the Y-Pipe which is also 2.25". Leaving the 2.5" single inlet/outlet to be welded to the muffler or tips.

I included some pictures of the exact Y-Pipe being fitted onto an E90. Hopefully this clears up the confusion and gives you an idea of how it should it fit.

Didn’t know it was reversible!
& thanks for the pics I feel so much more confident bringing it back to the muffler shop now and saying “I have a y-pipe that fits already”.
So worried that they would mess up the Y-section somehow and I’d have a messed up exhaust system.

Sounds nice... wish I didn’t live in a state where it’s mandatory to have a muffler on your exhaust system.
