Speedometer quits working when airbag warning light flashes

I have a 2006 e90 328i. After driving a couple hundred feet, an airbag warning light comes on the dash, and instantly, the speedometer quits working. What could possibly tie these two things together?
(I've also got a bunch of abs/traction control/low tire lights, that I'm trying sort out. I'm assuming it's an abs wheel sensor, but can't figure out which one). The speedometer doesn't seem to be tied to that error, since it quits when the airbag light comes on...

Ill state the obvious first because I know it will get recommended.

Have you checked your battery? If you haven't, check the health of your battery. Get is tested. If it fails, replace it. If you have a bad battery this will contribute to your issues.

Thank you very much for that suggestion. I haven't checked that, since it's been starting fine, but I certainly will.

I had my ABS/DSC hydro pump removed from the vehicle, as it was being rebuilt. I stupidly went in the car and turned the ignition on, because the dealer was asking me for my mileage, and when I did this, even though I did not start the vehicle, it simply went berserk. The air bag lamp lit, the wipers turned on full blast, and there were codes longer than my arm, all of them speed related. The reason, I believe, is that the car now could not communicate with the ABS module (module, not pump). I did not drive the car, it would be impossible, the pump was out of the car, but I am willing to be there would be no speedo, no cruise, and now way to turn the wipers off (not sure why the engineers did that)...my .02

meaning, for an ABS pump fault alone, ABS is yellow, not red. You can drive, and you have no cruise control, no DSC, no hill assist, but you do have a speedo...
