JB+ User Feedback?

I have been reviewing the user feedback on the JB4, Dinan Sport, and Dinan Elite tuners on this forum. The feedback seems to fall into three groups: "noticable power increase/smooth power" (good news), "jerky acceleration/jerky shifts" (not so good), and "CELs" (bad news). Based on all users who chose to report feedback to date, the Dinan Elite seems to garner the most good news reports and Dinan Sport the most not so good or bad news.

However, I could not find any specific performance feedback in this forum on the cheapest, easier-to-install tuner (JB+). In contrast, there are a fair number of user reports for the JB+ on the f30 bimmerpost forum (predominantly good news).

So what is the feedback on JB+ from the f22 community???

Had mine a month now, dead easy to fit with a decent performance gain for the money, no warning lights at the moment. Good value.

Lew: What boost setting are you running and are you noticing any jerkiness during acceleration or shifting?

I'm running the 3 o clock (as shipped) position. I'm up about 30hp at the wheels, 394hp at the crank (from 360).

No CEL's

I think the jerky gear change is purely because the power cut (gearbox initiated power cut) is cutting a higher power figure, so is more noticeable. I drive in manual mode, Sport+ by default.

Standard setting as it came out of the box, not noticed any jerky behaviour, runs smooth.

Get it. 200$, adds a noticeable bump it power.

I put mine one 2 years ago on 100% power, stacked on top of my flash tune, and hasn't caused any issues.

its also very easy to resell if you move onto something else.

OK . . . so I tried it. I left it at the original 3.5 psi-boost setting. And . . .

I LOVE it. I don't plan any other engine mods so a fancier tuner with more sensors was not needed. This one just adds a noticable kick at low RPMs which is mostly in the range that I drive. So far, no hesitation and no CELs. I am quite satisfied.

Great to hear that !

2 questions:

1. How did you remove the TMAP sensor without damaging it ?

2. Do you feel any shifting jerkyness or delay with the JB+ installed ?

Thanks.

Regarding jerky shifts: nope, none. I have a manual transmission, but not sure if that makes any difference.

Regarding the TMAP sensor: yes, I found removing it a bit tricky. The connector is a very simple design with a white tab on the back that pulls out about 1/8" with a "click". If you look carefully at the JB+ connector before install (which has the same female connector end), you can see that pulling out the tab allows a tiny plastic locking tongue inside the connector to free up and move out of the way releasing the connector from the male part. However, the tongue, although free to move, stays down and locked unless it is pushed gently upward. Since the TMAP female connector points back toward the engine block, there is no room to sneak a small flat head screw driver in there to pry up the tongue (the screw drive handle gets in the way). So I happened to have a screw driver that had its blade bent into a 90 degree angle (sorry, no pictures of this). I pushed this blade into the female connector from the engine side. That pushed the locking tongue up and out of the way, and the connector pulled apart easily.

I think a similar "tool" could be made out of a scrap of a tin can or maybe even a paper clip.

Hope this helps.

Engine hesitation and laggy shifting from 3rd gear with my JB+ even using octane booster and premium fuel in my 8Auto M240i. I had to turn the dial to half boost to prevent the laggy shifting. Not happy with it....

Sorry it’s not working out man. I’ve been running it now for about 6k miles in mine. Same thing 8zf but don’t experience the laggy shifting. Left mine at the original setting at 3.5 no problems. Run93 octane no booster. Ran it in my 135i for 4 yrs didn’t have any problems then either.
