BMW X2

Just got a marketing email from BMW telling me about the launch of the new X2.

Must have totally missed any talk about it!

With X1, X3, X4, X5 and X6 - BMW are saturaing the market with their X cars. Will be intresting to see if it offers anything different than current X models.

Same colour and looks as the wife's CX3 but about 15k more, she however was unimpressed

Not feeling it, looks like a squashed 2 series tourer and that’s an ugly car.

Don't get it. Surely if you take a small SUV and then squash it down you just end up with... a hatchback?

It is not just BMW. Every other car manufacturer is doing the same, eg honda dropped saloons and estates for SUV's and Seat/Skoda planning to introduce SUVs of every size. The choice is reducing for those who do not want a SUV/Crossover,

What was launch date mentioned?

Is the X2 to the X1 not what the X4 is to the X3?

In any case, assume 1 series, X1, Mini etc. all going to be on the same underpinnings going forward.

Still, I quite like it if I was in the market for a family-orientated Qashqai like car.

I'll be right back - just off to recycle a Skoda Fabia as a 'Yeti Coupe' on eBay. I fancy my chances.

Even the Evoque is little more than a jacked up large hatchback.

But the market dynamics are undoubtedly moving that way, so any company not following the money is daft quite frankly, at either end of the market.

True. But not first a hatchback, then an SUV, and then, arguably, back into a hatchback!

1 series -> X1 -> X2
