front license plate

Im sure theres threads on this already but i couldn't find it. I told me dealer not to drill holes in my bumper for the plate. but living in NYC the meter maids and police love to give out tickets. also hate the tow hook plate look. Anyone have a good product that i could use ? i heard Sto n Sho is good, haven't seen any BMWs with it.

I use a Skene plate bracket. It’s an L shaped bracket which still requires drilling but on the underside part of the bumper. So if you take the bracket off, there won?t be any visible holes.j

I had a Sto N Sho on my last car... a Gen5 Camaro. Great product. Solid build quality. Kinda pricy at $80 or so for a fancy plate bracket but pretty nice.

I went as long as I could with no front plate until I got busted for it. Most of the time they let it go here but you'll get nailed by the parking authority for sure and it just gives cops an excuse to pull you over, which I don't need. I got the black legacy plates and it looks good on black sapphire so the front plate doesn't bother me much now.

I have the tow hook set up as well but keep it off until I park at a busy place on the streets and I'll just screw it in a few spins to have it stay in place and remove it again when I come back. I liked the magnet trick but did not want to take off my bumper.

Really debating if I should just let them drill the holes and get it over with. Or I just might do something like this. Looks pretty cool

Mine was a bit different than that. A true STO N SHO brand item. Two pieces. Manual removal.

BUT. For the price I see on your link... how could you go wrong to give that a shot... I would but bought mine used and already had the front plated mounted... baby it and it will probably serve you well...

here's my show-n-go installed. It might be tough to see. It's under the main bumper section centered in the upper grill.

you have to cut a small piece at the top, bit it's not noticeable since it's so far under the bumper. that being said, you have to take off the front bumper to do it right.

Oh damn that's annoying. Having to take off the bumper. Too much work for a front plate.

Did the same. install in less than 10min. most of the time was me being paranoid about it being perfectly centered

I got the front license plate mounted to avoid being harassed by the cops. I think I get profiled for driving while not being white. I figured if I go plateless in the future I can always bondo over the holes as well as getting some bondo on some minor damage I have on one of the body panels.

Ive been front plateless since last December and constantly travel between LA and Orange County. I have never been pulled over for it and I have only received 1 ticket for it -- I had street parked while visiting Santa Barbara and came back to a $40 ticket. If that's how bad it is, I'll continue paying them to not have the plate on the front of my car

+1

No front plate for over a year. No issues.

So GF REALLY wanted to run a front EU plate on her car. I got the OEM mounting plate but I imagine it would work equally well with the US one. I did NOT want to drill any holes into the bumper so instead used some double sided 3M exterior attachment tape. Used that to attach bracket to bumper and finally screwed plate to bracket. It's been there for 3 months now and is VERY solid. If you really need to run a plate but don't want to drill that would be the best option IMO.

Got pics on how you did it? never thought about that. 3M double sided tape is hella strong and most likely won't fall off if it's just a bracket and license plate.

I do not unfortunately. The tape I used was narrow and flexible, so all I really did was wrap the back side of the bracket with the outer edge of the tape even with the outer edge of the bracket. I was able to easily bend around corners. I started in the center of the bottom so the seam would be there. On the off chance some water got back there it would act as a drain, vs having seam and potential gap on top.

I can try and take some installed photos later if helpful. I didn't trim the excess tape just left it inside if that makes sense.

Send me a PM tonight so it will ping my email and remind me to take some photos. Granted it's an EU plate so will be different but should be 99% same thing. I actually have the US bracket for my vert I can look at the back of that and see if it would be better or worse compared to EU. Assume that's basically the same bracket you would be using.
