New BMW driver here

Hi all,

I recently got a 2014 (Feb) BMW 3 Series F30. Its a black, 320d ED, Business Media, leather and it is totally standard. I have had it less than a week and i am really impressed with it. I came from an Audi A4 which was faster but pretty dull to drive.

I have read many threads on here already but i find myself puzzled by a couple of things if anyone could help me out that would be really cool.

I really wanted EBT but my car didnt come with it. I have checked (after reading these forums) and i do have a combox in the boot. I assume this means i can get someone to code this for me?

The coding that you can do yourself is definitely something im going to look into. I couldn't believe it when i read this was possible. Thumbs up all the way for BMW so far.

Another question i have is speaker system upgrade. I think mine is a base system but if i have subs under my front seats then they can't be doing much as i don't feel any vibrations and can't hear them. Do all BMW F30 come with subs under the seat? The sound is pretty disappointing so i have been looking into upgrades but i don't know what i need to replace yet as i don't know what i have.

My last question is if my car is NBT or CIC, are these different models of head units i am lead to understand. I used the bimmer vin code lookup and can see this if it helps.

6NH Hands-free Facility W. Usb Interface
6VB Control Infotainment
606 Navigation System Business

Sorry for the war and peace and thank in advance for any help.

Hopefully it will be my first post of many.

Be well. Martin.

Someone on here made a very handy guide for coding EBT yourself

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...&highlight=Ebt

Base speakers are crap, apparently just upgrading to Gladen components makes a decent improvement, but you really need to add an amp as well to get decent bass.

Yours is not NBT or CIC, they are versions of pro nav. You have CHAMP2 (business nav).

That is massively helpful, much appreciated.

CHAMP2. I will have to rip the boot carpet up and see if have an amp in there. I assume if i don't then i will need a custom made wiring loom run through the car. If my head unit will run it of course.

Welcome and leave now with your sanity and wallet intact.

If you decide to stay, don’t apportion any blame when you lose control of both.

Sorry, I can’t help much on anything else, as I’ve gone a little wibble.

Ha ha, i feel very welcome already.

Thanks for the replies. I do envisage having to dust the wallet off however with the coding you can do you are basically getting some features for free, i honestly can't get over it.

Hi, welcome.

I'm the guy that pops up on here when anybody complains about how poor the 'base' stereo sound is in their cars, and I tell them to add tweeters. Makes a huge difference.

Hi mate, thanks.

Yes i absolutely would add tweeters, in the front at least anyway.

I think a bimmertech amp maybe as job number 1 and then look at speaker upgrades.
