Auto Dimming Wing Mirror

I have noticed that the passenger mirror is not auto dimming on my wife’s new 67 plate 320d due to cost cutting.

If I purchased some glass from the the parts dept that does tint is this plug and play and would start auto tinting when required?

Thanks

Depends if they’ve left the wiring for it in the mirror housing.

Remove the glass and see if the connector is in there, little square one that fits into the white plug:

I'd be interested to know this too as I'm collecting my 420d GC tomorrow and I've gotten used to the passenger side dimming on the 2012 320d that I'm part exchanging.

That's really poor if the passenger side doesn't dim on newer cars, particularly for those of us that spend a fair bit of time in lanes 2 and 3 on the motorway.

Is that true of other models like the G30 5 Series too, or is it just F3x and below?

I have had dimming side mirrors on both sides for the last 20 years since my 1998 540i. You would have thought that the technology would become cheaper and more widely available over time.

BMW is stripping the automatic dimming passenger mirror feature from may 2017 models. BMW did not justify why the feature is being removed for 2017 or if there was going to be a price adjustment for Option Code 430.

The automatic dimming function will continue to be operational on the driver’s side mirror and rear view mirror.
