Winters: Pirelli or Goodyear

Looking for opinions based on experience please.

Have previously had the following winter tyres on M135i and 330d’s and considering alternatives this time-
Dunlop 4d which I found very loose and skittish
Conti TS850p great grip but high wear rate
Nokian good on snow but poor on wet surfaces

So im looking at Goodyear UltraGrip gen-1 or Pirelli Sottozero 3 (both non rft)

Thanks in advance

Edit: this is for square 225 45 18 on 8j rims

I use Continental 830s and have found the wear to be fine.

Previously I've had Goodyear Ultragrip 7s (different car and smaller wheel size) and these performed superbly in snow. Wear was also exceptional - half the rate of the standard RE050As at the time.

I have the Pirelli Sottozero 2 RFTs - still going strong with 5mm+ tread after 4 winters. No issues with snow or wet conditions.

Not tried any others so can't compare.

I had the Pirelli Sottozero and thought they slipped a bit too easily.

Swapped to the continental 830's last year mainly due to a promo at the time, and I sorta prefer them, just seen a bit more planted and the wear is good.

Can'Â’t speak highly enough of GoodyearÂ’s for winter grip and also how much quieter they are.

Between the 2, I would go Goodyear. Or look at Vredsteins?

I have the Dunlop 4D’s and tgink they’re great! The 5’s are out now, which are effectively the same tyre as the Goodyear gen 1’s (as they’re the same company).

Thanks all. I probably should have said that a tyre more biased toward cold and wet rather snow/slush conditions is my preferred option as although I travel a fair bit for work, it’s rare I see snow.

Now all I need is for ASDA to sort their website out as their selection has gone from around 15 choice down to 4, none of which I’d consider!

I have the sottozerros and I think they're crap. Traction issues in the wet, and even in mild or dry conditions, make them a poor choice for British winters. They were fine in the snow, but that's not even half the job of a winter tyre in this country.

I also have a set of pilot alpins and they're much much better and allow a performance vehicle to still feel like one.

I've had vredestein wintrac extremes on a few cars too and they've always been good too.

Another vote for the Mich Pilot Alpin PA4's, had them on for the last two winters are were great in the snow & water.

Have them as a normal staggered set up 19" 225 Front/255 rears, no issues at all. and very little wear.

Vredstien Wintrac Extreme.
I've run them through the summer, as well.
