Poxy new auto wipers...
...are smarter than you think.
This morning was 0 degrees and the wipers set in auto. They don't fire up until the temperature rises or you push the stalk up to manual.

Land Rover beat BMW to this ice protection feature with their Defender. If you switch on the wipers while its frozen, it helpfully blows the fuse to let you know.
