Best Tracker to get

Hi all

looking for some advice please

Sky insurance have insisted that I need to get a Tracker (Thatcham 5 or above) fitted due to value of car ? I've got 14 days to get that done

What is the best option to go for guys, are there any forum recommendations for a tracker+immobilizer combo ?

My renewal is due December, I've got to stay for a month with sky else loose my NCD for the year ? I am in a bit of a unfortunate situation, if it weren't for this dilemma I would've gone to another insurer that wouldn't insist on a tracker.

Many thanks
Rudz

Seems odd. Is the cost of a tracker going to be more than the 1 years ncb discount though?

I am unsure of costs, you probably are right, cost of tracker + subscription would be higher than a years NCB, but I am sooo close to finishing the year ? A tacker offers safety blanket, which can only be good ? Is Autowatch ghost a tracker or just an immobilizer ?

Depending on value of car and demographic, most insurance companies demand a Thatcham 5 and above tracker be fitted to the vehicle.

I paid over £2900 a yr in insurance for my RRS S/C however, come renewal the cheapest I could get was double the price. So I got trident tracker installed from Smartrack.eu and my fully comp is now down to £1,100 a yr for a 34yr old living in the capital.

So It’s a no brainer to have it installed if the value of your car is above certain threshold.

Really? I dont need one with Direct Line and never been asked for one with any of my cars. I'd be swapping insurance companies if they demanded I needed a tracker.

Its a no brainer to have GAP insurance if the value of your car is above a certain threshold.

After hearing a few of the guys on here that have the misfortune of having their cars stolen then later recovered, I'd not want it back. Give me the cash instead and I'll buy another car.

TBH if I was looking at a tracker I'd have to give Tracker a go. One look at their twatter feed (https://twitter.com/TrackerPolLiais) shows how successful it is, plus they use multiple bands and are directly connected to most (if not all) police forces and their vehicles.

Funny you say that, I’m also with Directline who insisted I have a tracker fitted to the RRS and also to my FF which is a different story. Insured my new Mini Countryman with them 2 weeks ago and no question about tracker. So this somewhat proves my point.

Insurance is a prerequisite unlike GAP(never had one). Having a £399 tracker could save you ££££ every year, so it’s a no brainier in my case.

That being said, I wouldn’t want the car back if stolen but guess as long as the tracker is present I have no choice as you can instantly track your car using the app.

Cobra/vodafone are also not bad with geofencing and speed monitoring (good if you want evidence of the tester speeding in your pride and joy) however expensive

This one looks good value £199 fully fitted

https://www.trackerfit.co.uk/stolen-...ector-pro.html

And £399 lifetime subscription.

On my garage queen, the cobra/vodafone (already fitted) reduced the insurance from £1800 to just below £700 which included 5 free trackdays with CCI.

Unfortunately the subscription is £200 pa

My gap is less than £300 for four years cover and believe it or not, when I asked my insurance to re-quote with a tracker, the premium went up. Admittedly, not by much (£40)

That's a bit of a blow. I personally don't want to car back if it gets stolen

Proper pissed, couldn’t collect my new car today

Sky had previously said i had 14 days to fit tracker, but when I called them today from the dealership to accept quote, they said unless I had a tracker I wouldnt be covered for theft, had they told me this a week ago when I called them initially I would have arranged for the tracker to be fitted at the dealership

So, Arden BMW have been really nice, they are going to install the tracker on Monday, they have a special offer on tracker below (£170 installed plus subscription)

https://www.trackerdirect.co.uk/tracker-monitor

It is tatcham Cat 7 so hopefully is sufficient enough

Sky are proper w**kers , will change in December for sure
