Foxy vandals

The little bastards have, for reasons not clear, decided to rip open the car cover and gnaw on the shark fin aerial...

Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrgh.

Any solutions?

Buy one of these and then sit and wait for it to return.

It won't come back if you get a clean hit

Being a country dweller and having a stock of chickens, I can offer you two effective solutions for foxes.
1) Male urine! (Human or dog)
2) Burt (image attached)
The one is a more subtle solution than the other.
Never lost a chicken in 10 years!

Solution 1. 12 bore shotgun (close range, ideally 40 yards or less for a clean kill)

Solution 2 (and my personal favourite). Steyr Mannlicher rifle in 223 Remington, 4-8*32 Zeiss scope, pushing a 53 grain Hornady V-Max bullet at approx 1100 metres per second. Any range up to 300 yards.

Solution 3 (and suitable for urban foxes). Cage trap and dispatch with moderated 22LR or 410 hushpower shotgun.

I can?t believe that photo. Why on earth would they chew the shark fin antenna?

They are a real pest where I live in south London, not helped in our immediate vicinity by the fact that my deranged neighbour regularly puts food out for them!? Barbed wire has stopped them jumping over the side gate on one side of the house but the bonkers neighbour in question actually complained to the police about the wire I installed on our shared side and I had to remove it.

Back to the OPs question, I?d get a pest control company in who have dealt with foxes and can give references.

Good luck!

Shame. We live near a playground so I wouldn't want to get done. I think I will try bottle it and pour it out when no one is around. How often do you water the garden so to speak?

Cayenne pepper worked for a while but when the wind blew outside you could smell it in the house!

I used to live in London and we had problems with foxes digging up our garden watering system. They chewed through quite a few of the pipes.

My guess is that the car cover is part of the problem. They probably think it's a giant bin bag so they chew through it expecting to find something tasty inside. They don't often damage cars, although I see that 37psi had this problem. I suggest removing the cover.

The cover looks like chicken skin. Maybe they thought the shark fin was a bone?

I parked at my parents in London when visiting. Dash cam caught this little shit slipping and sliding over the car in the rain. Mounted from the boot lid and did a power slide off the roof, windscreen and, subsequently the bonnet. Clawing it's way to try and regain control.

The cover is there because the foxes had started jumping on to the car as a handy ramp to gain access over our garden wall. As this had caused some nasty scratches to my old M135i, when I bought the 440i last December, I decided to take no risks and got the cover.

All was well until about two months ago when I started noticing little rips in the cover along with the usual muddy footprints. Presumably a new fox which is heavier or has sharper claws.

So I got my neighbour with whom we share the drive to agree to let me park the car away from the wall in what is technically the turn-around. I thought that would deter them since the car no longer provided a route to anywhere.

Well, evidently it hasn't, so I've actually now put the car back by the wall where it is at least right next to the house which might deter them from doing anything more than walking over it.

I have tried this. Using a bottle makes it easier to sprinkle on a wider area and avoids the risk of exposing oneself to the neighbours. But it doesn't appear to make much difference.

We've also had professional fox controllers to spray, which also seems to make naff-all difference.

Someone suggested soaking the cover in citronella. Apparently they don't like the smell and it is at least one I can cope with.

Why aren't you allowed barbed wire on your own property?

The police said that the type I had used was only permitted for commercial use - so I replaced it in the end with a version I bought in a garden centre
