340i Sunset Orange - Full Overview - Images

Update 10th November

Now I have finally been home for more than 24 hours I have managed to get some pictures since the initial pictures.

BlackVue camera installed today after the first one was returned.

Tomorrow I’m going to spend some time coding, really looking forward to learning more about the car.

8th November

Heres my update after having the car for ten days and 441 miles.

So the 200-mile drive back from the dealership in Oxford was something else, we hit huge traffic jams, but the adaptive cruise control was fantastic.

The car doesn’t blend into a crowd at all and an I love that its unusual with the sunset orange and black finishes.

This week I had the Autowatch Ghost installed, this thing is great. I keep forgetting every time at the moment, but it has given me a great peace of mind that the car won't go anywhere especially when its parked up in a car park. Had the guys for SAS mobile in Leeds come over bright and early to install. They spent 90 minutes installing and then 20 minutes showing me how everything works.

Detailing
As soon as I had the car, it was up at a local detailer Motovanity for a total protection package inside and out.

This thing just shines and shines.

Wheels - Gtechniq C5
Body - Gyeon Quartz MOHS

The car is due its first rinse wash this week then its first hand wash in 20 days. I can't wait to upload images once washed this week.

Noise and Power
The noise this thing makes just makes me giggle every time, I feel like a big kid every time I jump in the car.
Did I mention the power coming from a 320d then a 1.2 Seat Ibiza as a daily driver until the 340i? It feels like a rocket ship; I love this car!

Heres my thoughts on some of the options on the car.

Adaptive cruise
10/10
Love this thing, it has made motorway driving, and even town is driving super relaxing. Using it for the first few days felt unnature and a few brown trouser moments when I thought it didn’t pick up the cars in front. Now I couldn't live without this feature.

Lane assist
1/10
I didn't even know I clicked this option, not a fan.

Dimming/folding mirrors
8/10
Great feature, I like how these help with the idiots who drive on full beam. Only annoying thing is having to press the fold button on locking. I would like them to fold when the car is locked.

Professional navigation
10/10
Something I should have had on the old car. I love the online entertainment system, being able to use BMW connected Drive has been great for planning routes. The digital cockpit makes things look a little more modern.
HK – Something else. Such a difference in sound compared to the basic system.

Electic seats
8/10
Shame these don’t come with lumbar support considering the price! Much better at getting the car in the position needed. Great for when the Mrs will be allowed the car, we can save our seating settings.

Comfort package
10/10
A total must especially in the UK, having the heated seats and wheels feels that little bit better in the mornings.
Favourite part is the sliding armrest.

Not so good
I’m sad to say for a brand new car these some questions on quality being raised.

I first notice the passenger door handle trim had the “carbon weave” defect, I looked as it had been chipped bit looking closely there is no damage but just shows clear plastic.

iDrive and all power to USBs went dead on Saturday then rebooted.

Passengers front seat, thread from the leather starting to fray.

M Performance spoiler – crap paintwork. Detailer showed me the state of the spoiler under bright light. The surface is terrible; you can see sh*t under the paintwork.

Spoken to BMW CS and trying to get in next week little sad to be back at BMW so soon.

Overall
Even with the issues mentioned above this car is everything and more than I expected, the car was a long wait, but it has been well worth it.

Choosing between a 335d and a 340i you guys have helped me pick the perfect car for me, I enjoy driving again now and have the balance of the car for work use and a weekend fun car that makes me smile like a kid again.

I can't thank you enough.

Nice write up - I love the colour

With regards to the folding mirrors - just hold the lock button down for a couple of seconds when locking and they should fold in.
Then find someone to code them so you don’t have to hold the button as long

Holding the lock button on the key for 2-3 seconds will fold the mirrors on lock.

You can code this for a shorter press or none at all.

Lovely car

The mirrors fold if you keep holding the lock button on your key fob for a second and a half. You can code them to fold on locking with the bimmercode app by reducing the comfort access interval.

Great looking car RustyBitz Really love that colour.

Try and keep the niggles to one side - they will get sorted. Have you tried HJ in Warrington ? I've always found them very good.

Looking forward to seeing more pics with the sun on it

Saw my first Sunset Orange F30 yesterday, have to say it looks really good, quite a muted orange colour but still stood out well!

So how much are these fancy ceramic whatever coatings these days?

I assume they last years and are essentially additional very tough bonded clear coat?

Looking great in the pictures.

On the digital cockpit I really like the Sport mode which is very clean and uncluttered. My only gripe is that there is no customisation (I think) as in Comfort I would prefer to turn off the Efficient Dynamics gauge under the rev-counter as I did in my 330d.

I paid £650 which I believe was a fair price for the amount of work and effort that’s gone into the car. Quoted over £1k at three detailers for the same work.

Thank you everyone for commenting on my first detailed write up, I really appreciate you all taking the time the read and an input

Thanks for the write up - enjoyable to read

My car was coated with Gyeon Quartz MOHS+ back in October last year. It's still working extremely effectively. Just wait until you first wash her and then jet-wash off; all the beading is fantastic.

I would highly recommend getting some Gyeon Wet Coat to help maintain the finish; amazing stuff!
