Noelle ECU flash installed

Hi everybody,

I have the Noelle ECU flash installed in my car now.

Let me share with you my first impressions. Ambient temperatures have been 55 degF today.

I brought my car to Dähler / Switzerland yesterday ( Forge DV's only, everything else stock ) to get the Noelle ECU flash. Dähler is one of the best BMW tuners in Switzerland, if not the best. He uses the Noelle tune for the 335i. Got my car back today and of course, have been very curious about this flash after PROcede V1 and V2, JB2H and the new AA Active Processor.

With all my previous tunings the gas pedal response has been quite harsh. This means, when pushing it only 1/4 of the overall possible way, the engine provided already nearly maximum boost. Not the Noelle tune. I get maximum boost at 3/4 - 4/4 now. Feels very different and very good. In general, my car feels more like it would have a big naturally aspirated engine under the hood.

The second thing I noticed, is that the oil temperature seems to be ~ 10 degF lower compared to all other tunings I used, which all have been piggybacks. Of course, it has to be verified, I only drove 100 miles with the tuning today.

I have the 6AT tranny. Noelle has lowered the auto shifting rpm, the car upshifts now at 6700-6800 rpm, both in D and DS mode. At this time the boost had already tapered down to 9 - 9.5psi. I saw the tune holding 13 - 13.5psi today. Maximum peak boost during shifting in DS mode has been 14.5psi for one time. I expect boost raising a little once the car has full adapted to the tuning and the ambient temperature will raise.

While cruising it seems to me milage has increased. This has to be verified as well. The speed limiter is removed, according to Noelle the maximum speed of the car is now 292 km/h or 181.5 mp/h. This has been verified by a customer in Germany: 293 km/h, GPS.

I love this kind of power distribution. Gas pedal down to 50% is driving civilized, 50%+ is driving fast, pretty fast. The tune is stronger than the AA Active Processor and the car feels great. I love this tune. The stock exhaust with the dimisa tips sounds very good. According to Noelle this tune delivers plus 60 hp and 120 NM ( both numbers are crank ).

This is the second car I get tuned by Dähler. The company is good but damn expensive. So I gave the piggybacks a try. No alternative for me after the experience I made. The Noelle tuning is street legal here. Warranty is comparable to Dinan.

I think I've got an Alpina B3 biturbo now .

Noelle = .

He mentioned that they are crank #'s.

Congrats Eugen... I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying your new flash.

Great info Eugene. Please keep us updated (I know you will).

I assume you think the Dinan Stage 2 is a real deal for us in the US?

Looks like dinan Stage 2 with a catback exhaust is putting out about 390HP @ the crank for $2kUS installed.

Uh, it will most likely be $1999 + labor + tax, if I'm not mistaken...

So would the Noelle Flash be comparable to Dinan Stage 2?

Looking forward to a full review once your car( and you) have adapted!

Dinan Stage 2 with their axle back mufflers would cost $2k + $1.6k, if I'm not mistaken. Then factor in labor and taxes...

Very nice review Eugen. The pedal distribution you mention sounds very nice. One thing that bothered me about my JB2 was that the car seemed to become quite jerky over time at partial throttle, especially when running the R switch.

Seems like the flashes offer more control over this type of thing as I've heard people with the Dinan tune mention similar feelings. This is very interesting to me, I would love increased power without the added jerkiness in lower gears and partial throttle.

I think Dinan Stage 2 is great. There is an upgrade path for the Noelle tuning as well .
