Worst two weeks of my life? Yep.
25th of October. Colonoscopy detected a tumour in my Bowel.
I'm a fit and healthy 46. For a week I didn't know the full extent. CT scan last week confirmed it is contained but it's Stage 3. It is operable. Just. I'm just in time. I'm still in shock. I wanted to share with my virtual friends on here. I'll update you all more in the coming days and weeks and give you more of an insight as it might help others. My operation is on Monday the 20th. They are removing a section of colon and re-plumbing me. Puts a whole new perspective on life. Laters. Dobbo. |

Really sorry to hear that Dobbo. Fingers crossed it all goes as well as it can.
I can imagine it totally alters ones perspective of what's actually important in life.

Good luck Dobbo. As you say, life altering and puts perspective on everything.
I have a couple of friends who have come through similar, and are now hale and hearty, enjoying what life brings with that fresh perspective. Fingers crossed for you.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm staying super-positive and I feel as fit as ever. Out each day with the two Dobermans for some power walking.
The NHS have been amazing so far I have to say. AMAZING. I just need my Consultant Surgeon to have a good day at the office on Monday 20th. #positivepower |

Also as the OP said, check your life insurance. If you have critical illness cover then you may be able to claim. I paid 95% of my mortgage off with my payout. All the best, brother and keep us all posted. |

All the very best of luck Dobbo.
As has already been said, the NHS are just wonderful when you need them, you'll get the very best of treatment. I know I did 14 years ago when I needed them. Just curious, but as you say you're 'fit and healthy', what led to the colonoscopy ? Did you do a self test at home ?

Hi Dobbo,
Just wanted to add my best wishes and hopes for a positive outcome to those posted above. As many have said the NHS is a wonderful organisation when things get serious. I see you're in Yorkshire - where are you getting treated? I had surgery and oncology treatment at St James' in Leeds and have nothing but praise for them. Hope wherever you are going is equally as good. I know it's far easier to say than do but keep your chin up and stay positive.

Dobbo, thoughts with you and your family at this time. Hoping all goes perfectly for you and you get the all clear after the operation. The long odds were getting this detected in time, much much shorter odds now to get the job finished successfully.

Ah mate.
I have ulcerative Colitis and had to wait for tests when I first found out to see if it was possiblely cancer. Kind of known how you feel. Luckily we are fortunate to live in a country with good health care. I'm sure it will come good. |

I'm sure this news comes from the blue like a sledgehammer so all the very best for surgery.
A couple of my family members have been through similar with great success so I'm sending you positive vibes. Technology to make this surgery a success is now amazing - you really are in good hands.
