Hook Ring Seal Question

For 2006, 2007, and some 2008 models, I know BMW used the metal rectangarings that is known to wear down and cause "grooving" on the bearing ledge....which leads to cylinder head replacement For those of you who have BMW's of these model years, did you ever replace the rectangarings with the revised teflon ones, or are you still running the originals? Wondering if the old rectangaring design is good past 120K miles....or if these should be replaced as "preventative." My car still has the original cylinder head.
