Autowatch Ghost in action

I came across this on YouTube this morning.

I have had mine fitted for nearly two weeks and love this product, especially when the car is left in open car parks on a daily basis.

One thing I noticed is they added app support so if you have your phone you can get in and drive without the pin code. So surely all they’ve done is allow thieves to nick your phone instead of your keys to drive it away?

I wasn’t a fan of the app, deleted it as I prefer the pin entry.

Meanwhile they wreck the interior of your car either trying to defeat the system or out of pure malice.

Better that than have have your car ragged and then possibly recovered?

I was thinking the same, to be honest, especially how quick they found the keys.

Much easier to replace a few bits of interior than not know how bad they thrashed your car if you get it back.

Having the app access means a vulnerable attack surface.

I'm surprised they did that as a thief will now go for the keys and phone too.

I'm still waiting for magna-volt to be a thing

Quite possibly, especially as it’s linked to a third party installer, but I will add if a upvc door doesn’t have the key turned the throw locks can be retracted by the outside handle, leaving the door only held on the middle latch, when I had a car stolen at my parents they hadn’t turned the key(they expected me back from a night out within half hour), the thieves opened the door will a flat blade easily as the door was also poorly rigged by the installer. When the police came round the door could be opened with a tea spoon handle. Shocking really for a “high” security composite door.

Basically they opened the door as if it wasn’t locked and then retreated to wait for an alarm or someone to come out, after 2 mins and nothing they entered, the only thing that delayed them was that the key was in a fairly obscure place. They got there after 20mins though.

This Autowatch ghost would have more than likely prevented the theft. Looks like a good piece of kit. I would be worried about letting a third party loose on the car wiring though and warranty implications, the work I have had done by auto electricians and alarm installers in the past has been woeful. The last alarm I had installed I found the wires literally l screwed up into a ball and pushed behind a panel, with the shock sensor not even secured to the chassis. The guy wouldn’t return calls when asking to have it put right.

Since you have had first hand experience. That's fair comment. Rusty did also point out the speed they found the keys. Although i realise that's also something not everyone puts in a safe place.

I would have though, someone who went to the trouble of extra car security might. Secure their house. plus hide their keys slightly better.

Just thinking out loud.

Also very true, I wasn’t saying you thinking that was wrong, We are all thinking how genuine this may be, but can appreciate AWG is a good product, that perhaps would sell itself rather than need staged ads on YouTube, truth is we’ll never know.
If Iw as the owner though I would be addressing that over exposure on the cctv sharpish!! A bright white ball as a close up of a face is totally useless.
